Position Summary
The Waterslide Attendant helps create a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable aquatic environment for YMCA members, participants, and guests. Under the direction of the Aquatics Director or Aquatics Coordinator, the Waterslide Attendant monitors waterslide operations, enforces safety rules, educates participants on aquatic policies, and supports a positive member experience.
The Waterslide Attendant serves as a YMCA ambassador by demonstrating the YMCA’s core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility while helping all individuals feel welcomed, valued, and connected to the YMCA community.

Qualifications
Required
- Minimum age of 16 years
- Ability to pass YMCA waterslide attendant training
- Ability to recognize unsafe conditions and respond appropriately
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with members, participants, and staff
- Ability to remain alert and attentive for extended periods
- Ability to work in a fast-paced aquatic environment
- YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification
- Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification
- Current First Aid Certification
- Current Oxygen Administration Certification
- Ability to pass YMCA lifeguard swim requirements:
- 300-yard continuous swim
- 2-minute tread without hands
- Retrieval of a 10-pound object from a depth of 9 feet
Essential Functions
Safety & Risk Management
- Monitor waterslide operations and surrounding areas to promote participant safety.
- Enforce all YMCA aquatic facility rules, waterslide policies, and safety procedures.
- Ensure participants meet all ride requirements before entering the waterslide.
- Identify unsafe behavior or hazardous conditions and take appropriate corrective action.
- Immediately notify lifeguards or supervisors of emergencies, incidents, or safety concerns.
- Maintain vigilance and remain attentive while on duty.
- Hear and recognize distress signals and emergency communications within the assigned area.
- Follow all YMCA emergency action plans and risk management procedures.
- Greet members, participants, and guests in a friendly and welcoming manner.
- Provide clear explanations of waterslide rules, swim testing requirements, and aquatic policies.
- Respond to member questions professionally and respectfully.
- Create a positive atmosphere that encourages fun, safety, inclusion, and belonging.
- Support the YMCA’s commitment to making every individual feel welcomed, accepted, and valued.
- Arrive prepared and ready to work at least 10 minutes before scheduled shifts.
- Communicate effectively with lifeguards, supervisors, and fellow aquatic staff.
- Attend required staff meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions.
- Maintain professional appearance and conduct at all times.
- Demonstrate YMCA values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions.
- Support branch events, aquatic programs, and special activities as assigned.
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to work in humid, warm, and wet environments.
- Ability to hear, observe, and respond to activity in and around the waterslide area.
- Ability to communicate effectively with participants and staff.
- Ability to lift up to 25 pounds occasionally.
