HOURS PER WEEK: Varies (part time)
REQUIREMENTS: A HS Diploma or GED is required. Prefer a 2-4 year college degree in a Sports Management, Recreation, Therapeutic Recreation, Personal Training, Physical Fitness or Health related field. Will accept experience in lieu of college degree. Preferred; some level of training, certifications or experience in personal training. Personal leadership and commitment to YMCA coaching methodologies. Certifications required within the first 60 days of hire: YMCA approved basic life saving skills such as CPR, First Aid, and AED. This position must have the ability to respond to safety and emergency situations. Must be 18 years of age, have a valid driver’s license, as well as capacity to drive to various locations within the greater Greensburg area.
RESPONSIBILITIES: This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening the community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the guidance of the Director of Sports and Wellness, a Youth Sports Coach is responsible for promoting, supervising, and evaluating sports programs. Create a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; build relationships with and among members and program participants. Communicate appropriately with individuals based on readiness to change; coach them in support of their desired behavior change and regularly checks on members’ progress in meeting personal and program goals. Share programing information with members, using available tools and resources (e.g., handouts, schedules). Identify and celebrate the successes of members and program participants. Review program schedule and prepare areas for events. i.e. setup/takedown volleyball nets Maintain and clean equipment according to the schedule or as requested by supervisor. Demonstrate YMCA policies and procedures in program areas. Respond to emergency situations in program area. i.e. first aid to injuries or clean up of spills. Mostly evening and weekends.
