2nd Shift (1:30PM-10:00PM)

Job Summary
Yarde Metals is looking for a laser operator to join our Operations Team. A laser operator sets up, operates, and tends to the laser machine to safely cut material into pieces based on sketches and templates.
Responsibilities
- SAFETY FIRST!
- Read and follow work orders and production schedules to understand specifications, source material, cut locations, dimensions, and tolerances.
- Locate, retrieve, and return material to designated areas using motorized material handling equipment such as side loaders, overhead cranes, and forklifts.
- Setup cutting unit for safe operation by selecting appropriate nozzles, setting speeds, & feeds.
- Visually identify material alloys, forms, sizes, surface conditions, and obvious material defects.
- Measure material in accordance with quality procedures prior to cutting using calipers, micrometers, tape measures, squares, and verniers.
- Measure the dimensions of material per quality sampling plan to ensure accuracy of cuts.
- Program controller to cut and nest correct shapes.
- Inspect completed cut pieces for conformity to quality standards and customer specifications.
- Stack and sort finished products for packaging.
- Pack and protect material for shipment.
- Clean saws according to maintenance procedures
- Safely operating various saws as required based on workload or business needs.
- Perform additional warehouse duties as directed by supervisor.
Requirements & Qualifications
***This is a SAFETY SENSITIVE position: requires operating heavy machinery.***
- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.
- Warehouse, material handling, and forklift experience required.
- Experience related to the duties of operating a saw is strongly preferred.
- Must be able to read, understand, and carry out work instructions in English.
- Basic arithmetic skills to calculate and convert decimals and fractions required.
- Must be able to read and understand basic measurement functions (ruler, caliper, etc.)
- A consistent high level of attention to detail is required.
- Ability to pass a human performance evaluation to meet physical requirements of the job (lifting up to 70 lbs., pushing, pulling, etc.)
