Position Responsibilities
General Duties:
- Establish priorities in accordance with given guidance and direction in areas that require
- attention.
- Establish and maintain acceptable work practices among employees.
- Works closely with assigned department employees to help improve sanitation performance.
- Provide suggestions regarding staffing needs, equipment, and materials needed to meet production demand and sanitation goals.
- Participate in the Fiscal Year End Inventory count.
- Develops a partnership with quality, operations, and maintenance to meet company’s objectives.
- Understands chemical specifications and their effectiveness/proper application for different processing and packaging equipment SSOP’s, Sanitation Standard Operating Procedure.
- Coordinate, assign, and schedule the activities of the employees engaged in sanitation of food processing equipment, processing areas and general housekeeping of the premises.
- Update, implement and enforce Master Sanitation/Cleaning Schedule to ensure compliance with regulatory and company’s standards.
- Responsible for verification and recordkeeping and update of all sanitation documentations including Sanitation Signoff Logs, Work Order assignments, MSDS and Training Records.
- Provide cleaning crew with work assignments, schedules, training, feedback, coaching, support and development opportunities.
- Maintain the cleaning storage room including chemicals, cleaning tools and be organized and clean.
- Add specified amounts of chemicals to equipment at required times to maintain solution levels and concentrations.
Maintain detailed records of cleaning logs, training, corrective actions, and regulatory compliance.
Resources
- Organize workflow by assigning responsibilities and following the production schedules.
- Verifies that all required materials and supplies are sufficiently stocked and that all the equipment is up to date, safe, and in proper working order.
- Assign/schedule employees to various areas of assigned department to ensure production needs are met.
- Investigate sanitation/pest control issues, implement corrective actions, and respond to spills or emergencies.
- Establish rounds during the sanitation periods to ensure that we are in compliance with the company's sanitation standards.
- Establish priorities in accordance with given guidance and direction in areas that require attention.
- Monitor procedures to ensure product is properly manufactured based on Product Specs. (If applicable).
- Ensure quarterly cleaning, start up, changeover and end of the production period are done efficiently following procedures for sanitation cleaning and product changeover.
- Be familiar with established S.O.P.’s and assure implementation.
- Ensure that the departments perform sanitation activities within established S.O.P.’s, and results meet or exceed company goals.
- Maintain effective communication with supervisors concerning mutual problems.

- Discuss with the Direct Supervisor/Manager any situations that affect the Sanitation’s goal attainment and suggest solutions.
- Collaborate with the manager and upper management in assigned Production and/or sanitation continuous Improvement projects.

- Perform a continuous improvement project.
- Keep sanitation costs to a minimum while producing quality products.
- Assure employees are always treated in a professional and respectful manner.
- Meet with department personnel in areas needing enhancement or modification.

- Ensure employees follow all company policies and procedures.
- Communicates departmental goals and objectives on a daily/weekly/monthly basis to assigned department employees. These goals will include production-related goals such as output, safety, etc.
- Covers/back up of Senior Supervisor when needed.
- Assist in the orientation, training, and coaching of employees.
- Be readily available to workers to answer/address questions/concerns respectively.
- Demonstrate excellent quality service for internal customers, which should be proactive, personalized, convenient and competent.
- Support all audits including product safety agencies and external auditors.
- Report on quality defect issues and help determine necessary corrective actions to eliminate repetitive failures.
- Ensure compliance with local, state and federal food safety laws including applicable parts of the Code of Federal Regulations, FDA Food Code and Good Manufacturing Practices Regulations, SQF system and industry best practice.
- Adhere to quality standards to ensure product quality and Food Safety by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP s), standard operating procedures (SOP s).
- Attends Food Safety/Quality training sessions.
- Ensures manufactured products meet customer requirements.
- Ensure cleanliness and upkeep of facilities by conducting daily & quarterly major cleaning.
- Make a minimum of six safety suggestions a year.
- Lead production team to zero incidents, through inserting the safety culture.
- Before starting your regular work, search your working area 360 degrees for any unsafe conditions. If you find any risks, fix them or look for a solution. Ensure the team follows this rule: “360 degrees for any unsafe condition".
- Report and fix any production problem or safety risk.
- Create and maintain a safe working environment by implementing good housekeeping standards for a clean department.
- Enforce safety procedures, PPEs, food safety standards and company policies.
- Documenting all injuries/incidents and reporting to Human Resources and Director of Operations.
- Respond to workplace injuries by providing first aid for your crews or by taking employees to receive medical attention at our Medical Center.
- Participate in, and support all safety program elements, directed towards meeting the plant’s TIR (Total Incident Rate) goal established each year. This includes safety training, inspections, incident investigations, incentive programs, and any other safety-related activities.
- Comply with all company policies and procedures including safety rules.
- Support any emergency evacuation or safety emergency.
- Perform LOTO and PPE checks before starting the sanitation process of equipment and enforce the program with cleaning crew.

- During sanitation activities, monitor attendance of employees and submit absence requests and other pertinent payroll documents to Senior Management.
- Provide training for safe and productive equipment cleaning in a timely manner.
- Employee cross training within the department to ensure sanitation efficiencies are kept at optimum levels.
- Ensure employee training and development related to food safety, sanitation and specific SOP.
- Ensure compliance with plant wide regulatory employee training.
- Ensure employees are trained in how to use the software.
- Ensure Alchemy reports are accurate.
- Schedule regular meetings with employees so they can be informed of future events, work schedules, and allow time for any feedback or questions.
- Provide employees with work assignments, training, feedback, coaching, support, and development opportunities.
- Work closely with the Production Manager to execute projects.
- In occasion help clean, mop, sweep, and other general warehouse cleaning duties.
General Qualifications
QUALIFICATION -Knowledge Skill and Abilities (KSAs)
- Must demonstrate the ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety guidelines given by the Area-Production Manager.
- Be able to accurately complete quality control forms and use a calculator to assist in tabulation of products.
- Must demonstrate to follow the Yamamotoyama safety rules.
- Strong knowledge of food safety systems and practices related to food hygiene, sanitation, SSOPs, GMPs.
- Manufacturing experience is required with general knowledge of manufacturing methods and equipment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and training skills.
- Occasionally, Ability to work nights/weekends

Working Conditions
- Warehouse environment: due to materials used, there is exposure to dusty materials; utilization of standard warehouse equipment which includes forklifts, and other warehouse equipment.
- As needed, employees must be able to use both hands to properly inspect and pack finished goods. Usage of hands will be constant.
- Up to 2 hours of continuous use of hands may be required, then employee will take mandatory work breaks and resume duties as a packer after break requirement has been fulfilled.
