Description

In this role, you will play a key part in keeping Lee County’s roads, construction sites, and public spaces safe and running smoothly. You will operate and haul heavy equipment, maintain road right-of-ways, and support projects across the Department of Transportation Operations Division.

This position is ideal for an experienced slope mowing operator who enjoys working outdoors, using a variety of equipment, working both independently and with a team, and stepping into a leadership role when needed.

Duties and Responsibilities

What You Will Do

  • Operate and haul heavy equipment such as batwing tractors, slope mowers, skid steers, tractors with loader attachments, trash trucks, bucket trucks, grapple trucks, dozers, and other related equipment.
  • Maintain road right-of-ways through mowing, clearing, and general upkeep.
  • Perform general labor duties including material handling, debris removal, and site maintenance.
  • Set up, maintain, and break down safe work zones in compliance with traffic regulations and IMOT standards.
  • Complete in-house training to obtain IMOT certification.
  • Operate hand tools and power tools safely and effectively.
  • Perform routine inspections and basic maintenance on equipment.
  • Assist other crews or departments as needed.
  • Work independently or as part of a crew depending on job requirements.
  • Learn and use Cartegraph (or similar system) for record keeping and tracking daily work activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of daily tasks.
  • Fill in for the Crew Supervisor when needed, including documenting daily activities, directing crew members, and reporting to the Project Manager.
  • Follow all safety procedures, traffic regulations, and County policies at all times.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education, Experience, Licensing

What We’re Looking For

  • High School Diploma or GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Three (3) years of hands-on experience in heavy equipment operation or related fields.
  • Strong knowledge of construction processes, material handling, and equipment operation.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying environmental conditions and perform physical labor.

Licensing Requirements

  • Valid Florida Class “A” Commercial Driver’s License (required for employment).
  • Acceptable driving record.

Safety-Sensitive Position

  • This is a safety-sensitive position and is subject to Drug and Alcohol Workplace Testing in accordance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 382).

Work Schedule: Monday – Thursday, 7:00 AM – 5:30 PM
