Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Fiber Optic Technician to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting fiber optic systems to ensure optimal performance of telecommunications networks. Your expertise will help expand and enhance our clients’ fiber optic infrastructure, supporting reliable high-speed connectivity. Responsibilities

  • Install, splice, and test fiber optic cables and systems in outdoor environments following industry standards and safety protocols.
  • Operate heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and other construction machinery safely during installation and maintenance tasks.
  • Use diagnostic tools and telecommunications testing equipment to identify issues within fiber optic networks and troubleshoot technical problems effectively.
  • Interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering schematics to accurately execute installation plans.
  • Perform telecommunications outside plant operations including cable pulling, trenching, and conduit installation while adhering to the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
  • Conduct telecommunications network cable splicing, testing, and troubleshooting to ensure seamless connectivity across LAN (Local Area Network), WAN (Wide Area Network), Ethernet, and telephony systems.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to interpret technical documentation and schematics for complex fiber optic network projects.
  • Maintain detailed records of work performed, including installation logs, test results, and maintenance reports.
  • Ensure all work complies with safety standards related to low voltage electrical work and outdoor construction environments.
  • Support the deployment of IT infrastructure by installing cabling in various settings while adhering to industry best practices.

Experience

  • Proven experience in field service roles involving outdoor work environments with a focus on telecommunications or fiber optics.
  • Hands-on experience operating heavy equipment such as bucket trucks, power tools, and construction machinery safely in outdoor settings.
  • Strong knowledge of fiber optic systems installation—including splicing, termination, testing, and troubleshooting—using telecommunications testing equipment.
  • Familiarity with interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and engineering plans related to fiber optic or network infrastructure projects.
  • Experience working with telecommunication cables in outdoor environments with an understanding of the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) standards.
  • Knowledge of computer networking concepts including LAN, WAN, Ethernet cabling, telephony systems, and low voltage electrical work.
  • Ability to perform climbing tasks safely while working at heights on utility poles or structures; climbing certification is a plus.
  • Construction experience involving trenching, conduit installation, cable pulling, and outdoor network deployment is highly desirable.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills supported by familiarity with diagnostic tools used for fiber optic networks and telecommunication systems.
  • Excellent safety awareness combined with a proactive approach to maintaining a safe work environment at all times.
