XNRGY Climate Systems is a leading North American company in sustainable design and advanced manufacturing of custom air treatment systems. It specializes in next-generation chiller equipment for mission-critical applications. XNRGY is looking for a qualified Mission-Critical Sales Application Engineer to join its team at our Mesa, AZ, location.
What You Will Do
The person in this position is responsible for designing, preparing bid documents and proposals (performance data, drawings, component selections, construction details), and creating the submittals for Mission-Critical Systems, including but not limited to large-tonnage Centrifugal Chillers, CRAH units, CDUs, and AHUs.
Under general supervision, this position supports the sales team by assisting with pre- and post-sales activities related to mission-critical equipment opportunities. While the role mainly focuses on executing our equipment business, the balance of pre- and post-sales activities will vary depending on the project type, client, assigned Account Executives, and customer expectations.
Pre-sales activities encompass system configuration validation, rating software development, selection of Chiller, CRAH, and CDU equipment and controls for the basis of design, along with bidding, application, and pricing. This role will receive guidance, coaching, and support from the vice president of sales, the engineering manager, and assigned account executives regarding pre-sale requirements and expectations.
Post-sales activities include executing profitable, accurate equipment projects on time, within scope, and aligned with customer expectations. Develop detailed engineering info and submittals to communicate design, configuration, operation, and installation requirements to customers, consultants, Xnrgy service, and subcontractors. Collaborate with the sales team to balance customer satisfaction and project financial results in pre-sale and post-sale duties.
An overview of your responsibilities:
- Facilitates detailed project estimates for sales teams to finalize and present to clients. Verifies assumptions during proposal and development phases. Develops comprehensive cost estimates and scope of work collaboratively with Sales. Supports the preparation of proposals and customer communication documents.
- Manages selection software tools, rating programs, and validation of performance information with engineering and testing departments.
- Manages, trains, and assists in recruiting junior sales application engineers.
- Assists in the development of sales and engineering gating processes.
- Offers technical support, guidance during selection processes, and limited estimating help to sales teams in the project design or proposal stage.
- Responds to questions about commissioning scripts, engineered equipment, and controls applications from existing clients, potential customers, and other sales channels.
- Assists in developing factory and site witness testing plans for inclusion in submittals, guide specifications, and contract documents.
- Develops and maintains viable long-term relationships with customers, consultants, prime contractors, and subcontractors. Attends job progress meetings as required.
- Prepares customer proposals and quote letters for assigned projects. Includes project takeoffs, specification review, special quote generation, and RFQ and RFI issuance
- Supports sales efforts to become the basis of design through timely selections, specifications, sequences, drawings, and document reviews as required.
- Manages project Profit and Loss (P&L) and customer satisfaction for all assigned projects, including execution of the equipment orders, startup, commissioning, and final payment.
- Interprets engineering drawings and specifications in order to develop and provide engineered equipment submittals in compliance with contract drawings, site coordination, and site installation requirements.
- Follows standardized guidelines for creating and processing equipment engineering submittals, including verifying chiller performance, selecting configurations and options to meet schedule, drawing, and specification requirements.
- Confirms that Xnrgy has an “approved” equipment submittal and receives positive configuration approval from the installing contractor before approving equipment for fabrication.
- Assesses the scope of contractual supply and the effects of client-issued bulletins, field directives, and scheduling changes. Coordinates with the customer to align the project schedule and ensure the equipment is released on time.
- Works to optimize the number of appropriate additional change orders. Performs related cost estimates, prepares proposals, and collaborates with sales to negotiate the final settlement price and customer acceptance, based on scope of supply changes and/or change orders.
- Coordinates the factory equipment ordering process to ensure it meets both technical and commercial requirements as specified in contract documents and site coordination needs.
- Selects, arranges, and monitors the delivery of materials and equipment for assigned projects. Coordinates shipping to ensure compliance with factory and project schedules, and reviews order status reports as needed to identify critical delivery deadlines. Works with the Customer to coordinate equipment delivery requirements.
- Effectively reports project progress, issues, and financial status to management as needed.
- Coordinates post-shipment services, including start-up initiation and addressing issues related to delivery, shipping, or scope omissions.
- As required, visit customer sites to confirm the delivery and receipt of critical equipment meet Xnrgy's, the customer's, and the owner's expectations.
- Ensures that project documentation adheres to contract requirements, Xnrgy standards, and the official Xnrgy equipment order process.
- Coordinates customer-training requirements with the Xnrgy service team.
- Ensure that all customer requirements regarding billing are communicated to the Customer Operations Associate.
- Assist the Customer Operations Associate with any collection issues related to the scope delivery to ensure Xnrgy receives payment in full.
What you'll need, among other things!
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or building engineering or other related fields (P.Eng preferred);
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in systems design or large tonnage HVAC equipment sales;
- Knowledge of hydronic system design, controls, and operation;
- Knowledge of commissioning practices and procedures;
- Proactive team player with a sense of responsibility and capable of working in a fast-paced environment;
- Capacity to apply and maintain administrative processes to improve the company's overall effectiveness;
- Effective problem-solving skills and being initiative with the ability to work effectively when managing multiple tasks;
- Computer knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite;
- Knowledge of AutoCAD is an asset.
