What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Back End Developer Engineer/Leader position at Xcelerated Consulting Group, LLC.?
The Position Role Overview:
This is a leadership full-time (W2) 180K position with benefits plus stock options at a startup healthcare provider. Must be a US citizen or GC holder, local to the Norwalk, CT area or NYC Metro Area.
The company provides Benefit Plans that make healthcare simpler, more transparent, and more predictable for employers, members, and providers. This Senior AI Backend Engineer role is critical to building the secure, scalable platform that powers eligibility ingestion, claims processing generation, provider search, notifications, and care planning workflows that directly shape real member outcomes. The technology-driven healthcare benefits company focuses on coverage that reduces costs while improving member experience and engagement. By combining AI data, analytics, software, and services, the company enables employers, payers, and providers to deliver value-based care with predictable, bundled pricing for episodes such as maternity, surgery, and chronic condition management. This role reports directly to the VP of Engineering. The Senior AI Backend Engineer will lead the design and implementation of high-scale, AI serverless backend services using AWS, Python, Relational and NoSQL databases, and modern architectural designs. You’ll own systems end to end, from AI design, development, and testing through deployment, monitoring, and ongoing improvements. You will collaborate with engineering, analytics, product, and operations teams to build data pipelines, APIs, event-driven workflows, and durable AI processing engines that are foundational to delivering an exceptional, predictable healthcare experience.
This role owns services end-to-end—from AI architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and continuous improvement—ensuring reliability, performance, and security for mission-critical healthcare workflows
What You’ll Do
Architecture & System Design
Design and build large-scale AI, resilient, serverless systems using AWS Lambda, API Gateway, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, Step Functions, EventBridge, and Kafka.
Architect durable, fault-tolerant AI workflows for claims processing, episode generation, eligibility updates, communication engines, and other core healthcare processes.
Create and evolve backend APIs for both B2C (member portal) and B2B (payer, employer, provider) integrations.
Engineering & Implementation
Develop high-quality backend services in Python, following strict test-driven development(TDD) practices.
Build clean, well-structured AI codebases emphasizing maintainability, testability, reliability, and scalability.
Implement secure data flows and storage patterns aligned with HIPAA and healthcare compliance best practices.
Data & Healthcare Standards
Work with structured and semi-structured healthcare data (e.g., eligibility, claims, clinical data).
Partner with Analytics and Data Engineering to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and fidelity.
Operational Excellence. Own systems end-to-end: development → testing → deployment → monitoring → iteration. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, infrastructure-as-code, and observability dashboards.
Continuously improve reliability through canary releases, alarms, automated rollbacks, and well-designed SLOs.
Collaboration & Leadership
Drive cross-functional architectural discussions and propose scalable, long-term solutions.
Mentor and hire engineers, raise the bar for engineering culture, coding standards, and system design thinking. Work closely with product to refine requirements, define technical specs, and deliver high-value features.
