Xavier Catholic Schools is hiring a Principal for Xavier High School, starting in the 2026-2027 school year! The mission of Xavier Catholic Schools is to form disciples unafraid to follow Jesus Christ. 

JOB SUMMARY:

The Principal provides leadership and oversight in all aspects of school operations to ensure a safe, supportive, and effective learning environment. Working collaboratively with other administrators, faculty, staff, students, and parents, the Principal plays a vital role in promoting academic excellence, fostering student growth and development, and maintaining a positive school culture. As a leader in a Catholic educational system, the Principal is expected to model and promote the mission of forming disciples unafraid to follow Jesus Christ, and foster a Christ-centered, respectful, and ethical work environment and upholds Catholic identity through every aspect of their leadership and decision making.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • State of Iowa Administrative License with Evaluator Approval
  • Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or related field
  • Practicing Catholic in good standing who lives the Gospel values
  • Commitment to Catholic education and alignment with the mission and values of the school
  • Demonstrates aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned responsibilities
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in school administration, instructional supervision, and student management
  • Required Practicing Catholic
  • Enthusiastic supporter of Catholic faith and schools
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Professional oral and written communication skills
  • Flexible, adaptive, and cooperative
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build positive relationships.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Catholic Dimension

  • Gives priority to the Catholic dimension of the school
  • Supports and fosters Catholic Christian uniqueness of the school
  • Ensures faith-building, prayer, and spiritual education opportunities for staff, students, and stakeholders
  • Uses Gospel values as the basis for decision-making
  • Fosters and maintains Parish(es)/School Relationship
  • Ensures Catholicity Minimum Expectations are met
  • All who serve at Xavier Catholic Schools will witness by their public behavior, actions, and words a life consistent with the teachings of the Catholic Church.

Administrative Relationship

  • Assists in creating a favorable working atmosphere within the building conducive to optimum growth and learning.
  • Assists the system president in long range planning
  • Prepares bi-monthly school reports for the school board
  • Maintains proper student records, files and documentation
  • Communicates and interacts directly with the system staff and pastors on school-related matters
  • Administers the safety and security procedures for the building, equipment, grounds and transportation
  • Administers the policies of the local and Archdiocesan Catholic School Boards
  • Assumes other responsibilities relative to school matters

Staff Relationship

  • Interviews candidates and recommends candidates to the system president and school board for employment
  • Working with the Learning Services/Instruction and Programming Director plans for professional development and training.
  • Leads school faculty meetings
  • Is responsible for classroom observation of teaching staff and supervision of non-certified staff
  • Conducts a continuous evaluation procedure for all building personnel in compliance with State and Archdiocesan guidelines
  • Meets with the Learning Services/Instruction and Programming Director, and faculty, concerning the goals, objectives, and total educational program of the school
  • Directs the food service program and maintenance staff

Student Relationship

  • Maintains and communicates programs for evaluating student progress towards instructional outcomes
  • Works with staff regarding student conduct and discipline
  • Works with guidance personnel regarding student concerns
  • Is available to students

Curriculum/Instruction and Assessment

  • Coordinates with Learning Services/Instruction and Programming Director staff program offerings and assessments
  • Plans and selects with the Learning Services/Instruction and Programming Director, system principals and staff, materials keeping with gospel values, current educational standards, and local and Archdiocesan guidelines
  • Collaboratively works with the Catholicity Director and staff for formation of the faith community of the school.
  • Works with the Learning Services/Instruction and Programming Director and staff to ensure educational excellence, improvement of instruction and ongoing evaluation
  • Supports instructional lessons that are consistently standards-based, objective-driven, and effectively delivered with an urgent focus on individual student mastery and personalized learning.

Parent/Public Relationship

  • Publishes parent/guardian communications on a regular basis
  • Schedules, organizes, and promotes opportunities for parent involvement
  • Maintains an open line of communication with staff, students, parents, and the Central Office administrators.
  • Works with parent groups
  • Builds a spirit of professionalism in the total system and parishes education community

Professional Relationship

  • Is committed to ongoing personal and professional growth
  • Participates in periodic evaluation conducted by the Learning Services/Instruction and Programming Director and System President.
  • Engages in periodic review of professional growth

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Personnel within their school responsibilities

These duties are not all-inclusive.  Other duties may be assigned.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, talk, reach, sit, hear, handle and perform repetitive motions of the hands/wrists.  Lifts and moves items up to 20 pounds.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed in a small office setting.  Employees may be required to attend evening meetings and do extensive close computer work.
