Job Summary: This role is not only responsible for day-to-day claims handling, but also for managing key risk management processes, including incident response coordination, loss control measures, claims trend analysis, compliance tracking, and risk mitigation planning. The successful candidate will help protect park assets, promote workplace safety, and ensure regulatory compliance in collaboration with internal departments and external partners. You will also lead the development of departmental playbooks, contribute to training programs, and support strategic initiatives designed to improve overall risk performance across park operations.
The Details:
Position Type: Full-Time, Year-Round
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)
Location: Remote (with travel to Yellowstone National Park)

Responsibilities
- Claims Administration & Risk Process Oversight
- Administer and monitor all workers’ compensation, liability, guest injury, and property damage claims, ensuring compliance with Wyoming and Montana state laws and insurance requirements.
- Manage claim documentation, investigations, and case updates in coordination with third-party administrators, insurance carriers, and corporate risk management.
- Coordinate and track Return-to-Work programs and modified duty assignments.
- Collaborate with location HR on restricted duty and lost time claims.
- Manage relationship with in-park clinics to facilitate their billing on workers’ compensation (WC) claims and to obtain timely updates to provide to the field re. their employees on WC.
- Identify and escalate potentially fraudulent claims or risk exposures.
- Risk Management Processes
- Lead and improve incident response protocols, ensuring timely and accurate reporting and escalation of events.
- Oversee loss control activities, including hazard identification, site-specific recommendations, and corrective action planning.
- Conduct and present claims trend analyses and predictive insights to inform risk reduction strategies.
- Manage risk data collection and compliance tracking, including OSHA logs, training records, and injury statistics.
- Assist with the design and execution of risk mitigation plans, in partnership with operations and safety teams.
- Training & Documentation
- Develop and deliver training on claims reporting, injury documentation, and risk prevention strategies to park departments.
- Participate in and help lead training programs for leadership and staff, focused on risk awareness and safety best practices.
- Design and maintain departmental playbooks, SOPs, and resource materials to standardize procedures and improve team knowledge.
- Continuously update internal forms, instructions, and manuals based on legal, corporate, or operational changes.
- Systems & Reporting
- Maintain records of all claims and risk events in compliance with regulatory and legal standards using approved company systems and adhering to corporate record retention policy.
- Use data management tools to produce and distribute injury and incident metric on prescribed cadence.
- Ensure ongoing data integrity and analysis to support informed decision-making.
- Committee Participation & Interdepartmental Coordination
- Serve on the Parkwide Safety Committee: contribute to discussions, report on accident trends, and collaborate on corrective strategies.
- Work with the Risk & Sustainability Specialist to monitor in-park training participation and safety course completions.
- Foster positive working relationships with the National Park Service, healthcare providers, adjusters, and Xanterra leadership.
- Travel Requirements
- Travel up to 20% of the time to Yellowstone National Park for investigations, field assessments, and training sessions.
- Overnight stays and schedule flexibility may be required based on operational needs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Risk Management, Insurance, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in claims and risk management, preferably in hospitality, concessions, or public lands management.
- Proven experience managing multiple risk-related processes, including incident reporting, claims investigations, safety compliance, and return-to-work programs.
- Working knowledge of OSHA, state workers’ compensation laws, and industry best practices.
- Skilled in claims data analysis, systems management, and producing clear, actionable reports.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.
- High level of discretion, professionalism, and problem-solving ability in sensitive or complex matters.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and claims management software.
- A valid driver's license is required.
- Passion for sustainability, conservation, and service in a national park environment is strongly preferred.
