A leading energy producer operating modern natural-gas and geothermal facilities across North America is seeking an experienced Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Specialist to support multiple generating plants within its regional fleet. The EHS Specialist will provide technical expertise across a broad range of safety and environmental compliance programs. This role is responsible for ensuring adherence to federal, state, and local regulatory requirements while supporting internal standards for safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operations.
This position performs and oversees key regulatory reporting (such as Title V, EDR, DMR, stormwater, hazardous materials business plans), supports air and water compliance, waste management, safety programs, DOT and EPCRA requirements, and interfaces directly with regulatory agencies and plant teams. The role also contributes to incident investigations, auditing, employee training, and continuous improvement efforts.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare and submit required environmental and safety reports, including air, water, and hazardous material documentation.
• Support major compliance programs, including general industry safety, air and water/wastewater permitting, waste management, PSM/RMP/CalARP, DOT, and EPCRA.
• Collaborate with operations teams to enhance safety culture, engagement, and awareness.
• Identify, evaluate, and communicate EHS risks and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Conduct EHS assessments, analyze trends, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
• Track compliance status and ensure completion of regulatory and internal requirements.
• Maintain accurate recordkeeping and documentation for all EHS matters.
• Lead or support investigations involving environmental or safety events and recommend corrective actions.
• Assist with agency inspections, internal audits, and emergency preparedness activities.
• Utilize software and digital tools for EHS reporting and compliance management.
Required Skills and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or a related field; equivalent experience may be considered.
• At least 5 years of EHS experience, preferably within power generation or industrial operations.
• Strong understanding of federal, state, and local EHS regulations.
• Experience with Part 60, Part 75, CEMS, and regulatory reporting platforms is desirable.
• Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to travel up to approximately 35 percent for site visits, meetings, and training.
• Professional certifications (CSP, CHMM, CIH, REM, etc.) are advantageous.
