What are the responsibilities and job description for the Environmental Engineer position at X-FAB?
Function/Duties:
This position is involved in day-to-day operations which includes conducting site and area walkthrough and inspections, developing, coordinating and performing various environmental functions critical to the operations of the plant. He or she will partner with other organizations to provide technical support and coordination of overall environmental compliance consistent with company's policies and guiding principles. Responsible for maintaining effective relationships with plant management and employees, community representatives and regulators.
Responsibilities:
- Program authority for the Environmental Management System
- Managing and providing continual improvement to the site’s environmental compliance program
- Maintaining knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental laws and regulations
- Maintaining federal, state, and local environmental permits
- Conducting chemical accident investigations, analysis, and corrective actions
- Filing all required federal, state, and local environmental reports as required
- Hosting regulatory agency compliance audits and inspections
- Managing the site’s environmental policies and procedures
- Maintaining and improving an Environmental Management System (EMS) in accordance with ISO 14001 and customer's environmental compliance requirements
- Developing proposals to identify and implement cost reduction projects
- Conducting management EMS compliance review meetings
- Initiating and/or participating in various site audits including, but not limited to, internal audits, cross-fab audits, and self-audits
Skills/Competencies:
- Knowledge of hazardous waste, air emissions, wastewater discharge, DOT and SPCC regulations
- Ability to respond to chemical spills or releases at any time
- Ability to organize, plan and manage numerous multidisciplinary projects while meeting regulatory deadlines, department objectives, and customer commitments in a timely manner
- Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions in controlled situations, read and understand engineering plans and specifications
- Practical chemistry knowledge including ability to evaluate alternatives with engineering and suppliers, including interpreting MSDS
- Must be able to effectively communicate, both written and verbally, across functional departments, as well as with external customers, contractors and suppliers
- Strong analytical, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills required
- Ability to travel overseas
- Ability to climb ladders and stairs
- Good computer skills including MS office and AutoCad
- Good interpersonal skills; proven team worker, problem solving & self-starter
- Ability to perform at a high level with minimal supervision.
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S./M.S. degree in an Engineering field of study
