Medical Assistant Job Description
Purpose of the Job: Perform basic patient care functions to assist the physician/clinical staff in the office with the examination or treatment of patients: perform related work.
Essential functions and responsibilities: To prepare and assist the doctor during patient exam. Work under the direct supervision of the physician. Anticipate MD requests and be prepared with assistance. To process lab and radiology reports and alert physician when abnormal testing is received.
Other duties and responsibilities: Maintain exam and treatment rooms. Clean and set up equipment for procedures, keep rooms stocked and ready for use. Perform duties – taking temperatures, height, weight, blood pressures, and pulse: prepare patients for exams, advise patients concerning prep for tests. Administer injections/treatments; perform EKG’s, PFT’s, pulse oximetry, urinalysis, and assist MD during exam. Obtain info from patient as to the reason for visit, symptoms, etc. and chart patient information. Prepare outside lab specimens. May perform receptionist and/or routine clerical duties; such as filling out forms, answering phones processing results. Maintain order in drug sample closet, verify out of date samples. Clean and disinfect instruments.
Knowledge and skills: Must have completed a Medical Assistant Program. Prefer MA certification; must have knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 codes. Accurate spelling of drug names and medical terminology is mandatory.
Physical Demands: Must be able to assist patient on and off exam tables: walk patients to exam rooms.
Working conditions and environment: Must be able to work rotating evenings and Saturdays. Must be available to work overtime if MD runs late.

Pay: $18.00 - $21.00 per hour

- EMR systems: 1 year (Preferred)
- Vital signs: 1 year (Preferred)
License/Certification:
- BLS Certification (Preferred)
