TITLE: Maintenance Coordinator
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Maintenance Coordinator oversees the operation, maintenance, safety, and efficiency of all school district facilities and grounds to ensure they remain safe, functional, and fully support educational activities. This position supervises maintenance staff and coordinates routine, preventive, and emergency maintenance, including scheduling and completion of work in accordance with district policies and applicable federal, state, and local regulations. The role is responsible for ensuring all facilities, equipment, and grounds are properly maintained and compliant with safety standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or GED required; related post-secondary education, technical training, or certification in maintenance trades preferred
- Minimum Five (5) years of maintenance experience, preferably in a school district setting
- Demonstrated ability or evidence of potential ability to effectively supervise maintenance staff and collaborate with school personnel and the community
- Ability to perform the essential physical functions of the position, including climbing ladders; moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds; standing for extended periods; walking, reaching (overhead and horizontally), and pushing or pulling objects; and operating maintenance equipment and tools, with or without reasonable accommodation. Work is performed in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments and may involve exposure to noise, temperature extremes, chemicals, and furnace or boiler byproducts.
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Proficiency in computer systems and maintenance management tools
- Knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to school facilities (including OSHA, EPA, DEQ, and Health Department requirements)
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise, coordinate, and evaluate maintenance staff, including hiring recommendations, training, assignment, and performance management; assist principals with custodial oversight and training as needed
- Plan, organize, and implement a comprehensive maintenance and preventive maintenance program for all facilities and grounds, including establishing standards for maintenance, custodial, and security operations
- Inspect facilities regularly to ensure safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency; maintain and oversee building systems such as HVAC, fire, and security systems
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and safety standards; review inspection reports and ensure corrective actions are completed
- Plan, prioritize, schedule, and monitor work orders and maintenance projects; communicate progress and status with school and division staff
- As needed, develop specifications for projects, equipment, and supplies; assist with the coordination and oversight of contractors, architects, engineers, and vendors for construction, renovation, and maintenance work
- Assist in developing and managing the department budget, including monitoring expenditures, maintaining financial records, and preparing capital improvement plans and cost estimates
- Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation for facilities, maintenance activities, inventory, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain an organized system for receiving, prioritizing, and tracking maintenance work orders
- Collaborate with school principals, custodial supervisors, and district administrators to address maintenance needs and facility improvements
- Coordinate delivery of supplies and equipment; consult with school personnel to assess and address facility needs
- Implement training programs for maintenance and custodial staff as needed
- Perform additional duties as assigned
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Twelve-month contract. Salary based on the Coordinator Scale.
