Location: Southern Adirondack Education Center, Hudson Falls & Clinical Locations TBD, Some Travel Required

Work Hours : Monday - Friday; 6:45 A - 3:45 P (M-W) ; 7:45A - 2:45 P (TR & F)

This dynamic instructional role combines classroom teaching and clinical supervision to support the development of future practical nurses.

• Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of subject.
• Demonstrate an understanding of adult learner needs and differentiating instructional approaches.
• Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
• Prepare and deliver lectures to practical nursing students on topics such as anatomy & physiology, care of clients across the lifespan, community healthcare practices, critical thinking and clinical judgement, fundamentals of nursing, leadership in nursing, legal, ethical aspects and professional behavior in nursing, maternity nursing, medical-surgical nursing, mental health nursing, nutrition, pediatric nursing, and pharmacology.
• Collaborate to plan and prepare course materials such as syllabi, instructional lessons, and homework assignments with colleagues and program supervisor approval.
• Collaborate with colleagues and supervisors to address teaching and research issues.
• Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction with colleagues and program supervisor approval.
• Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
• Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records.
• Exhibit professional behavior and communication skills that serve as a positive role model and mentor for students.
• Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, departmental matters, and academic issues.
• Provide orientation for new students at the healthcare facility, including the facility's job description for nursing staff, the Policy and Procedure Manual, location of educational resources, safety precautions, emergency protocols and blood-borne pathogens protection.
• Assign students to a variety of patients/clients to reinforce basic procedures in nursing fundamentals and to gain experience in the role of the practical nurse.
• Promote a positive learning environment with an emphasis on patient/student safety and compliance that meets national accrediting agency standards.
• Complete weekly and end-of-rotation clinical evaluations with systematic observations, and timely objective/subjective feedback to the student according to the BOCES practical nursing program and facility standards.
• Attend monthly faculty meetings to maintain productive two-way communication between the program supervisor and the assigned facility.
• Provide feedback to the practical nursing program supervisor about current department/hospital policies or changes in practice in the nursing field and recommend appropriate program changes.
• Maintain current state-of-the-art knowledge and skills through continuing education and professional development opportunities.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the program supervisor.

Job Qualifications

• Required Licensure: Current & Valid New York State Registered Nurse(RN)

• Required Education:

• Minimum: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Candidates with an Associate's Degree in Nursing may be considered if currently enrolled in a BSN program and are actively progressing towards completion. Verification of enrollment will be required.

• Preferred: Masters of Science in Nurse Education(MSN)

• Work Experience:

• Minimum of 3–5 years of clinical RN experience required.

• Nursing education experience in a classroom and/or clinical setting is desired.
