Job Overview

As a member of our Commercial Projects division, you will join other experienced employee-owners in building some of Maine’s most recognizable buildings in our varied commercial portfolio which includes projects in housing, hospitality, higher education, healthcare, and other commercial spaces.

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-driven Assistant Project Manager to join our dedicated team. In this role, you will collaborate closely with the Project Manager in establishing and maintaining sound relationships with owners and strategic partners such as architects and subcontractors. You will assist in managing construction phases, balancing project deadlines and costs with owner expectations of schedule, quality, and budget. This includes assisting with the creation of project scope and completion plans to ensure uninterrupted forward progress on the construction project.

Job Requirements

  • Develop a working understanding of project scope by reviewing construction plans, specifications, and estimates with guidance from the Project Manager
  • Assist in developing, updating and tracking project schedules and milestone plans by helping prioritize tasks, coordinate activities, track progress and support timely execution on the construction project
  • Identify potential project risks, schedule impacts, or cost concerns and communicate findings to the Project Manager to support timely resolution
  • Support the translation of project goals into operational activities and help communicate expectations to field teams, subcontractors and internal project members
  • Assist with project financial management, including owner billing, cost tracking, cash flow monitoring and financial forecasting using construction software and technology tools
  • Assist Project Manager in drafting and implementing subcontractor documents including agreements, change orders, and billing items

Education, Experience, And Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum one to three years of related experience in the construction field with experience supporting projects ranging from $3 to $25 million
  • Knowledge of construction financials and financial risk with the ability to apply to work on the job site
  • Exceptional customer service skills and ability to work in a collaborative, team environment
  • Ability to manage customer relationships and develop new business opportunities
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills with ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced project environment
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for coordination with project teams, subcontractors, vendors, and clients
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, plans, and specifications
  • Knowledge and experience with construction software and technology (Procore, Sage Timberline, Microsoft Suite, and MS Project preferred)
