Job Summary
Currently seeking an Ecological Restoration Technician and play a vital role in restoring and maintaining natural habitats. In this position you will assist with ecological restoration projects, landscape maintenance, and land management efforts. Your work will directly contribute to conserving ecosystems, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting sustainable land use. This role offers an opportunity to work outdoors, utilize a variety of tools and technologies, and develop specialized skills in ecological restoration and land stewardship.
Duties
- Work on a team to implement ecological restoration practices such as planting native species, removing invasive plants, and restoring degraded landscapes
- Conduct maintenance tasks including mowing, trimming, pruning, and general site upkeep using hand tools and power equipment
- Application of herbicides to control competing and non-native invasive vegetation
- Assist with construction activities related to habitat enhancement projects, ensuring safety and quality standards are met
- Operate machinery and commercial vehicles safely for transportation of materials or equipment to project sites
- Collect data on plant health, soil conditions, and habitat features to inform ongoing restoration efforts
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles regularly to ensure optimal performance and safety standards are upheld
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physical tasks in an outdoor setting and varying weather conditions
- A valid drivers license and ability to acquire a DOT medical card
- Ability to operate equipment such as tractors, mowers, and other power equipment
- Desire and ability to learn new skills
Any of the following skills, abilities or certifications are a plus, but not required:
- Experience in landscape maintenance, landscaping, or ecological restoration projects
- Native and Exotic Invasive plant species identification
- Valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) or experience operating heavy machinery
- ISA Arborist Certification
- Maryland and/or Pennsylvania Commercial Pesticide Applicator Certification a plus
- Knowledge of construction techniques relevant to habitat restoration projects
- An Associates or Bachelors degree in a related field of study
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
