Antique Auto Mechanic (Pre-1970 Specialist)

We are seeking a skilled and meticulous Antique Auto Mechanic to join our restoration team. This isn’t a "parts-changer" role; we are looking for a true craftsman who understands the soul of vintage machinery. You will handle everything from routine maintenance on 1960s muscle cars to ground-up restorations of pre-war classics.

Key Responsibilities

• Mechanical Restoration: Perform full engine, transmission, and drivetrain rebuilds on vehicles dating from the early 1900s through 1970.
• Maintenance & Tuning: Expertly tune carburetors (single and multi-carb setups), adjust points-style ignitions, and service drum brake systems.
• Pre-War Specialist Tasks: Service and repair vintage technologies including babbitt bearings, mechanical brakes, vacuum tanks, and 6V electrical systems.
• Diagnostic Work: Use "old school" diagnostic techniques (ears, vacuum gauges, and timing lights) to troubleshoot issues that modern OBD-II scanners can't touch.
• Documentation: Maintain detailed logs and photos of the restoration process for client records.

Required Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience specifically in antique or classic car restoration/repair.
• Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with pre-war automotive engineering and mid-century domestic and/or European systems.
• Problem Solving: Ability to fabricate or adapt parts when original replacements are no longer available.
• Tools: Must possess a comprehensive set of personal hand tools suited for vintage applications.
• Quality Standards: A "concours d'elegance" mindset—obsessive attention to detail and historical accuracy.

Preferred Skills

• Basic machining or lathe work.
• Experience with manual steering box rebuilds.
• Familiarity with early fuel injection (e.g., Bosch mechanical or Rochester).
• Knowledge of wood-framed bodies or early coachbuilding techniques.
