Position Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) at Wound Kinetics serves as a clinical expert in the assessment, treatment, and management of acute and chronic wounds. This role requires a strong clinical background, excellent critical thinking skills, and a dedication to patient education and outcomes. The RN will collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, and the broader care team to develop and implement individualized wound care treatment plans in accordance with evidence-based best practices.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care
• Perform comprehensive wound assessments, including etiology, wound bed characteristics, periwound tissue, exudate, and pain levels
• Develop, implement, and revise individualized wound care treatment plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team
• Select, apply, and change wound care products, dressings, and advanced treatment modalities (e.g., negative pressure wound therapy, compression therapy, debridement)
• Monitor wound healing progress and adjust plans of care accordingly, documenting all findings accurately and thoroughly
• Perform or assist with sharp debridement and other wound care procedures under appropriate supervision or scope of practice
• Administer medications and treatments as ordered, including IV therapy and wound-related pharmacological agents
Patient & Family Education
• Educate patients and caregivers on wound care techniques, dressing changes, infection prevention, and nutritional support for healing
• Provide instruction on recognition of wound complications and appropriate escalation or follow-up
• Promote patient self-management and adherence to treatment plans through motivational and culturally sensitive communication
Documentation & Compliance
• Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant documentation in the electronic health record (EHR) in accordance with regulatory and organizational standards
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, infection control protocols, OSHA standards, and all applicable state and federal regulations
• Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and outcome tracking related to wound care metrics
Collaboration & Communication
• Communicate effectively with physicians, APPs, physical therapists, dietitians, and other team members to coordinate comprehensive patient care
• Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences, case reviews, and team huddles
• Serve as a resource and mentor to support staff, LPNs, and new clinical team members
Qualifications
Required
• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice
• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred
• Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience; wound care experience preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Proficiency with electronic health record (EHR) systems
• Strong assessment, critical thinking, and clinical decision-making skills
• Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills
Preferred
• Certified Wound Care Nurse (CWCN), Wound Care Certified (WCC), or other wound care certification
• Experience with NPWT, compression therapy, offloading, and advanced wound care dressings
• Knowledge of CMS guidelines and home health or outpatient wound care billing practices
• Experience working in a home health, outpatient clinic, or long-term care wound care environment
Physical Requirements
• Ability to stand, walk, and perform clinical duties for extended periods
• Ability to lift and assist patients as needed (up to 50 lbs with assistance)
• Must be able to travel to patient homes or facilities as required for home visit assignments
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required for home visit roles
