Pay Rate: $20 - $22 per hour

General Description

The Assistant Manager supports the Store Manager in leading both staff and volunteers to ensure smooth and effective store operations. The primary focus of this role is overseeing the intake and processing of donations, managing recycling efforts, and providing support on the retail floor as needed. Responsibilities include a combination of day-to-day administrative tasks, upholding a positive store culture, and motivating team members through leadership, encouragement, and example. This role also involves setting daily priorities, contributing creatively to store improvements, and monitoring sales performance.

Essential Job Functions

• Ensure donations are received with warmth and exceptional customer service, creating a positive experience for all donors.
• Collaborate with the Store Manager to set overall production goals and individual performance targets for staff.
• Oversee warehouse organization, cleanliness, and safety compliance in all backroom operations.
• Perform and support physical tasks as needed, including lifting heavy items, operating a forklift, loading/unloading trucks, and moving pallets.
• Ensure adherence to all established store systems, procedures, and safety protocols.
• Build and maintain relationships with recycling partners, while exploring new opportunities to expand eco-friendly and sustainable practices.
• Participate in the training of staff, participants, and volunteers, ensuring each team member is equipped with the knowledge and confidence to succeed in their roles.
• Lead by example—working alongside the team with minimal time spent in the office.
• Assist with creating and managing staff and volunteer schedules using scheduling software.
• Take responsibility for opening and closing procedures, including arming/disarming alarms and securing the facility.
• Provide leadership development, including conducting performance reviews, creating performance improvement plans, and administering corrective actions when necessary.
• Utilize the Square POS system to run reports, troubleshoot register issues, manage the customer loyalty program, and support staff.
• Stay informed and prepared to respond appropriately to emergency situations.
• Support the Store Manager with administrative duties such as ordering supplies, processing payroll, counting and reconciling cash drawers, and preparing deposit slips.

• Resolve customer concerns professionally and promptly, ensuring a welcoming and inclusive environment.

Job Requirements

• Proficient in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive), Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel
• Familiarity with Square POS and Homebase scheduling software (preferred)
• Demonstrates professional conduct and strong communication skills, both written and verbal
• Able to lift 40 lbs or more and stand for extended periods
• Strong leadership, interpersonal, and team-building skills
• Flexible and available to work a varied schedule, including Saturdays
• Able to maintain a consistent 40-hour work week, with additional hours as needed

Knowledge, Skills, & Experience Required:

• High School Diploma
• College Degree preferred
• Management or leadership experience
• Forklift certification preferred.
• Experience working in nonprofit or mission-driven environments
