Emergency Department Registered Nurse — IHS Federal Hospital | North Dakota
About the Facility:
A fully accredited 12 bed federal hospital located in North Dakota near the Missouri River. The Emergency Department offers 24/7 care and is designated as a Level IV Trauma Center. The facility is staffed by Physicians and Nurse Practitioners providing comprehensive primary care based on the Primary Care Medical Home model. Additional services include inpatient care, outpatient care, dental, behavioral health, optometry, nutritional counseling, and telehealth. CT services available 24/7.
Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced Emergency Department Registered Nurse to provide 24/7 emergency care at a federal IHS hospital serving a tribal nation in North Dakota. High autonomy role in a Level IV Trauma designated ED serving a rural community that genuinely depends on quality emergency nurses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide emergency nursing care across all acuity levels in a Level IV Trauma designated ED
- Perform rapid triage, assessment, and stabilization of patients of all ages
- Administer medications, IV therapy, and emergency interventions per established protocols
- Respond to trauma, cardiac, respiratory, and behavioral health emergencies
- Coordinate care transitions with inpatient, telehealth, and transfer facilities for higher level care
- Interpret diagnostic studies including labs, EKG, and CT imaging
- Document accurately and timely in the electronic health record
- Deliver culturally sensitive care to a Native American tribal community
Required Qualifications:
- Active RN license — any U.S. state accepted
- Minimum 2 years recent ER nursing experience
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required
- TNCC preferred
- Ability to work independently in a rural federal emergency setting
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior IHS or tribal facility experience
- Trauma or critical access ER experience
- Cultural competency with Native American populations
Contract Details:
- Location: North Dakota — IHS Federal Hospital
- Setting: Emergency Department, Level IV Trauma Center, 24/7
- Hourly: $48.50 straight time | $71.25 overtime
- Weekly: $3,233.90
- Stipend: $1,246 weekly non taxable
- Schedule: 12 hour shifts
- Travel Bonus: $500
- Benefits: Full insurance included at no cost
- Paid every Friday
- Contract Length: 13 weeks with option to extend
