Job Summary

As an Obstetrics RN, you will utilize your clinical expertise and empathetic communication skills to ensure safe, comfortable, and positive birthing experiences while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver comprehensive maternal care.
Responsibilities
- Monitor and assess maternal and fetal vital signs during labor and delivery using advanced EMR/EHR systems and medical documentation tools.
- Assist with labor management, including performing sterile procedures such as suturing and maintaining aseptic technique during delivery.
- Administer medications, including pain management and anesthesia, following hospital protocols and Workers' compensation law compliance.
- Support neonatal resuscitation procedures and neonatal ventilator management to ensure the health of newborns immediately after birth.
- Educate new mothers on postpartum care, breastfeeding techniques, and infant care practices while providing emotional support throughout their hospital stay.
- Collaborate with obstetricians, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate comprehensive patient care plans.
- Maintain accurate medical records, including ICD-10 coding for diagnoses and procedures, ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations.
Experience
- Proven experience working in labor & delivery units within a Level I or Level II trauma center environment preferred.
- Strong background in maternal-fetal medicine, neonatal resuscitation procedures (NRP), and critical care (emergency response procedures).
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or Athenahealth for documentation and patient management.
- Experience performing sterile techniques, suturing, IV infusion, catheterization, and tube feeding in a hospital or outpatient setting.
- Knowledge of obstetric assessments including vital signs monitoring, fetal heart rate monitoring via telemetry, and physical examinations.
- Prior experience working with diverse patient populations including individuals with disabilities or complex medical needs is highly valued.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required; additional certifications such as Critical Care Nursing or Maternal-Newborn Nursing are advantageous.
