Job Description

This role provides hands-on manufacturing support for soft goods, leveraging experience with textiles, fabrics, and production materials. Supports full lifecycle from R&D to production with test setup as needed.

Role Responsibilities

• Assist in the development, documentation, and verification of soft goods manufacturing processes
• Fabricate, assemble, and test soft goods prototypes and production hardware
• Oversee and support soft goods fabrication and assembly activities in a production environment
• Provide backup support to Manufacturing Engineering as needed
• Diagnose product and process issues, clearly documenting and communicating findings
• Perform quality inspections and verification through final product acceptance
• Create patterns from existing components and/or engineering drawings and specifications
• Build and assemble flight train components, including ladders, parachute sleeves, and Stratocraft assemblies
• Support load testing activities for flight train systems
• Provide hands-on support to build across multiple work cells as required
• Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, and production teams to meet schedule and production goals
• Participate in continuous improvement and process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency and quality
• Safely lift and move objects up to 40 lbs., regularly bend, stoop, and perform other physical tasks associated with manufacturing work
  
  
  

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience operating industrial sewing machines; experience in aerospace, aviation, automotive, or marine environments preferred
• Experience working in Foreign Object Damage (FOD)-controlled environments
• Ability to read and understand engineering drawings and work instructions
• Basic technical skills in soft goods fabrication, repair, and assembly, with the ability to work with limited supervision
• Ability to identify quality issues and report nonconforming parts to a supervisor
• Mechanical aptitude with experience repairing, refurbishing, or modifying soft goods components
• Basic math skills for measurements, calculations, and inventory tracking
• Comfortable using computers for data entry, manufacturing systems, and recordkeeping
• Flexible and adaptable to changing production needs; willing to learn new processes and tools
• Time management skills and ability to meet production deadlines
• Clear communication skills and ability to work well with supervisors and teammates
• Knowledge of workplace safety practices, including OSHA guidelines and proper use of PPE
• Experience with sewing, textiles, webbing, heat sealing, and use of fabrication tools

• Experience working with stratospheric balloon systems or high-altitude flight hardware
• Hands-on experience with sewing, heat sealing, and/or ultrasonic sealing processes
• Experience operating or supporting automated manufacturing systems
