The ideal candidate will have
- Biblical and theological training (formal or informal) with good understanding of the scripture, ability to lead Bible studies, and ability to recognize and deal with problematic theology (a persistent problem)
- Exposure and competence in a number of different evangelism methods (such as Oral Bible Storying and/or Discovery Bible Stories and other interactive small/family group outreach) for reaching an unreached Muslim people group
- Experience and training in discipling Muslims
- Desire to participate in implementing creative church planting and multiplication strategies
- A heart to focus on the spiritual journey of people in collaboration with teammates that bring holistic ministry opportunities
- Good language learning skills
- Grit: ability to live in a challenging environment. Senegal is hot and dry for half the year, while in the rainy season the desert blooms, but travel becomes more difficult. Many of the comforts of the developed world are nonexistent, intermittent, or expensive. However, the unreached people are very hospitable, and the government is appreciative of missionaries.
- Learn the local language to facilitate deep interpersonal relationships with an unreached people group.
- Collaborate well with teammates and national church missionaries and leaders to develop strong relationships with an unreached people group as a platform for sharing the gospel.
- Collaborate well with other missions working in the area. This could include things such as Bible translation and literacy, evangelistic outreach programs by other organizations (such as Jesus Film showings), Christian development work in the area, etc.
- Develop good relationships with local leaders to learn about local challenges and needs, connecting them with teammates or other organizations that can address those needs.
- Partner well with NGOs and government officials to meet needs within your local sphere of influence. An intermediate level of French will be needed to accomplish this.
