What are the responsibilities and job description for the Paralegal- Temporary Assignment position at World Surf League?

An integral role within the World Surf League (WSL) Legal team, the Temporary Paralegal is responsible for supporting the Legal team. In this role, organization and attention to detail are key to ensuring efficiencies across the department, while innovative thinking is critical for driving initiatives forward. This role will report directly into the General Counsel.

Based on business priorities and team priorities, while in a hybrid working environment, the successful candidate should be based in Los Angeles, California. This role is preferred in-office (Playa Del Rey), in a 3 day onsite, hybrid capacity.

This is a temporary position for 4 months upon hire.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Work directly with internal clients to finalize legal documents, working with WSL templates and based on legal team parameters. Documents may include independent contractor agreements, athlete agreements, IP licenses, and event license agreements.
  • Organizing and archiving the documents related to completed and ongoing matters
  • Manage corporate governance documents, maintain organizational charts, manage relationships with corporation service companies / registered agents
  • Managing deal flow, document execution and management. Verifying signing authority
  • Manage requesting and reviewing Certificates of Insurance
  • Liaising with Finance and other departments
  • Manage invoices from outside counsel and legal ops vendors, expense report management, light calendar management / scheduling.
  • Communicating with local government agencies.
  • Completing basic government forms such as FEIN number requests, California statements of information, city and county paperwork.
  • Internet research skills such as state corporation/llc lookups, understanding the requirements for various government forms and filings.

Qualifications:

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • 3-5 Years of Paralegal experience
  • Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent)
  • Must be fluent in English. Portuguese helpful but not required.
  • Strong organizational skills, and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail.
  • Understanding of business associations / corporate governance.
  • Hunger for learning; openness and ability to wear many hats when necessary.
  • Experience with Google Suite (or comparable across Powerpoint, Excel, etc).
  • Experience with DocuSign, AdobeSign and iManage preferred.
  • Ability to work flexible hours if required

This will be an hourly, non-exempt position with an expectation of around 30 hours per week.

Hourly Rate Range: $27- 30/hour
