Since opening in 2004, we have been a vibrant hub for independent live music in Philadelphia. We invite over 150,000 people through our doors every year, supporting emerging and established artists, offering free educational programs, and welcoming audiences of all ages and abilities. In addition to presenting over 500 shows each year, World Cafe Live offers great food and beverages daily and caters over two hundred special events annually. Since our founding, our education and community programs have reached more than 50,000 participants. Programs include interactive performances at World Cafe Live and in-depth residencies for Philadelphia public school students and individuals with disabilities.

PROGRAMMING DIRECTOR:
This position at World Cafe Live offers a great opportunity for a talented, creative, and energetic professional to bring their dedication and excitement to two stages in Philadelphia, as well as new developing opportunities in our “WCL Presents” series.
Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Programming Director will be responsible for programming, booking, and supporting promotion of shows and original events in both The Lounge and The Music Hall. This is a full-time, salaried position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Submit, process and confirm show offers and execute agency-issued contracts and in-house room rental contracts
- Negotiate artist fees (as well as backline requirements, merch rates, etc when applicable) on behalf of the venue to keep costs down and profit margins manageable while still ensuring fair artist compensation
- Program the venue-wide calendar with combination of quality ticketed and free shows in conjunction with the Private Events and Education departments and their event schedules
- Report to our accounting department to coordinate artist payouts, outgoing agency deposits and incoming rental deposits and maintain venue-wide music budgets
- Coordinate with the production department to oversee fulfillment of artist riders and backline requirements
- Collaborate with our marketing and box office teams to contribute toward and execute creative promotional efforts and ideas
- Participate in weekly staff meetings to review the logistics of newly announced and upcoming shows
- Coordinate with the Private Event department to secure talent for their client’s event within their budget as needed
- Cultivate and nurture community and industry partnership opportunities with outside promoters and non-profit organizations
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Positive attitude, especially in challenging and high stress situations
- Team oriented mindset, with the ability to work autonomously
- Minimum of five years experience booking at a high–volume music venue
- Proven ability to track, record and control talent costs
- Ability to multi-task in a high-paced atmosphere
- Become an integral part of the process of increasing ticket sales and music revenue
- Proven ability to be responsive in a timely manner via phone and email, and diligently organized
- Carries a broad network of contacts amongst booking agencies large and small, artist managers and publicists as well as bands local to the Philly area
- Ability to work effectively under time constraints and deadlines
- Availability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends
Compensation: This is a full-time position for approx. 40 hours a week with an annual salary range of $65,000-$75,000 commensurate with experience. Additional benefits include: PTO plan, 401k options, travel and cell phone reimbursement credits and healthcare packages.
