Position Summary

The Structural Steel Estimator is responsible for preparing comprehensive cost estimates and proposals for assigned projects. This role also supports the Operations team after project award to ensure a smooth transition from preconstruction to execution.

Core Responsibilities

• Collaborate with the Preconstruction Manager, vendors, and subcontractors to develop accurate cost estimates for structural and miscellaneous steel projects.

• Perform detailed quantity takeoffs, including all material and labor requirements, and integrate vendor pricing to produce complete project estimates.

• Distribute project documents (plans, specifications, and addenda) to subcontractors and vendors.

• Solicit and obtain competitive pricing from vendors and subcontractors.

• Analyze and evaluate subcontractor and vendor quotations to ensure full compliance with project requirements.

• Review all self-performed work estimates for accuracy and completeness.

• Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits as required.

• Provide trade-specific scope details to support proposal development.

• Assist in the preparation and submission of sales proposals.

Post-Award Responsibilities

• Develop the initial project budget and detailed scope of work.

• Input estimates into the job cost control system.

• Participate in project turnover meetings with the Operations team.

• Support procurement of materials, equipment, and subcontractors as needed.

Senior-Level Responsibilities

• Review all construction documents, including Instructions to Bidders and scope of work requirements.

• Collaborate with the Operations team and vendors to determine construction methods for both shop fabrication and field installation.

• Work directly with customers to ensure a complete understanding of project scope, schedule, and requirements.

• Analyze contract documents against estimates to identify gaps, revisions, or value engineering opportunities.

• Coordinate with other estimators to ensure full bid scope coverage and comprehensive project understanding.
