POSITION SUMMARY
The Hospitality Academy Instructor is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing assigned Hospitality Academy classes. The Instructor is responsible for delivering course material, highlighting the importance of culture to pursue hospitality transformation and making hospitality a notable career. The Hospitality Academy Instructor leads students on a journey of introspection and reflection to empower students to powerfully engage in meaningful interaction with guests. The Hospitality Academy Instructor is also expected to contribute to the overall operation of the college and support the mission of the CIA.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, prepares, and delivers open enrollment and custom Hospitality Academy classes, including stories, service promises and cultural modules of study. Provides instruction and demonstrations for the program participants in an entertaining and fun way. Ensures that all programs are delivered to the quality standards established by the CIA.
- Engages with partners in the Pearl neighborhood to advance the hospitality goals of Pearl organizations, and integrate the stories and goals into the Hospitality Academy curriculum as necessary. Nurtures relationships with community partners to identify and develop talent pipeline.
- Leads tours of the Pearl neighborhood, incorporating history and story elements to empower students to engage in meaningful conversations with guests.
- Partners with the Director to plan Hospitality Academy programming.
- Provides edits to current course material and updates current presentations as needed.
- Works with the San Antonio team to ensure that all supplies, equipment, and par stock are available for the classes utilizing proper purchasing systems and exercising best practices with regard to cost control, inventory and budget maintenance.
- Maintains an understanding of current hospitality trends and integrates updates into programming.
- Creates lasting relationships with Hospitality Academy students.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associate’s degree in hospitality management or a related field, or significant work experience in lieu thereof.
Experience:
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience within hospitality, including experience in management.
- Experience with training within the hospitality industry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE)
REQUIRED SKILLS
- High skill level in hospitality management and customer interactions.
- Strong oral communication skills, including the ability to break complex concepts down to an appropriate level for students.
- Ability to identify learning outcomes and execute plans to achieve those objectives with students.
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills; ability to be adaptable, dependable and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong skills in the use of Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, as required by business needs.
- Regular work requires the use of a computer, many times in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
- Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods. Able to bend, stoop or reach as needed.
