POSITION SUMMARY
The Director of the Hospitality Academy Program is responsible for implementing the strategic vision and direction for the Hospitality Academy, as well as facilitating and implementing the planning, communication, administration and financial controls of the Hospitality Academy. The Director will provide both classroom and administrative oversight, which will contribute to the overall success of the Institute and its educational mission. The Director will deliver on culture-based, hands-on training and instruction to transform the hospitality industry through education.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manages the day-to-day operations of the Hospitality Academy within the San Antonio campus.
- Ensures the Hospitality Academic operates within budget and all budget goals are met.
- Collaborates with Managing Director in the implementation of a strong and positive working culture with all San Antonio team members. Establishes strong working relationships with all CIA team members throughout the college.
- Leads the efficient scheduling of instructors and courses. Schedules all instructors to ensure coverage for all classes. Plans and projects class schedules for the Hospitality Academy.
- Provides administrative management, supervision and leadership of instructors for the Hospitality Academy in collaboration with other divisional administrators and in a manner consistent with established Institute policies and procedures.
- Develops curriculum for the Hospitality Academy that supports the overall strategy of the Hospitality Academy. Creates interactive and engaging training materials including presentations, videos and activities to facilitate learning and development. Creates individualized training plans as needed to fit the specific needs of groups or organizations, considering their unique culture and objectives.
- Serves as liaison between the CIA, the Hospitality Academy, the Hospitality Academy Advisory Committee, and community leaders (e.g. San Antonio Food Bank, San Antonio School Districts, CAST High Schools) to build future cohorts.
- Leads classroom training and discussions, sharing demonstrations and presenting information. Oversees practical exercises in the classroom and the digital learning program.
- Evaluates participant development through assessments. Provide constructive and supportive feedback to students.
- Acts as primary contact for students of the Hospitality Academy. Meets with students to discuss problems or complaints, and assists in devising equitable responses and solutions. Mediates and resolves student complaints on a timely basis, according to policy and utilizing appropriate Institute resources.
- Participates as an effective spokesperson for the CIA and its educational programs, as well as the Hospitality Academy, to students, potential students, VIP's and other visitors to the San Antonio campus.
- Assists with registration and enrollment, and manages payment procedures.
- Any and all other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management or a related field, or significant work experience in lieu thereof.
Experience:
- Minimum of ten (10) years of progressive experience within hospitality, including experience in management.
- Experience with training within the hospitality industry.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience supervising instructors within a formal educational program.
- Master’s Degree in a related field.
- Certified Hospitality Educator (CHE)

WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, as required by business needs.
- Able to travel periodically to other CIA locations due to business needs.
- Regular work requires the use of a computer, most times in excess of eight (8) hours per day.
- Regular work requires a great deal of sitting and standing for extended periods. Able to bend, stoop or reach as needed.
