JOB OVERVIEW:
The Workhouse Arts Foundation is looking for individuals who will become a group of “as needed” hourly staff to support the day-to-day operations of the Workhouse Arts Center (WAC), Lorton Prison Museum (LPM), and Masterpiece Mini Golf (MMG). These individuals will have a variety of skills and be called upon to work when their skills best meet the needs of events, operations, and other tasks at the Workhouse.
Reporting directly to the Director of Museum and Visitor Experiences, Visitor Associates serve as the first point of contact for most patrons and visitors of the WAC. The primary objective for these positions is a willingness and ability to support the WAC activities as needed and add excellent customer service for each visitor to our campus, answer phone calls, respond emails, transact sales, see to the seasonal needs of the mini golf course, support financial management activities, and present a highly knowledgeable, friendly, and professional support across the board. Associates frequently work independently, involve working across and with many departments, require weekend and evening shifts. The position is part-time and hours per week vary with a maximum 30 hours per week.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
General Visitor Service duties:
- Greet all visitors so that each person feels welcomed, appreciated, and comfortable;
- Address questions with an understanding of our programmatic offerings and history, maintaining a level of respect for the seriousness of our site’s carceral history;
- Maintain awareness of activities on campus;
- Answer phones and forward or return phone calls and voice mail messages during shift;
- Support patron registration and ticket purchases in person, by phone, or email;
- Maintain gift shop inventory and handle points of sales transactions;
- Provide administrative and hands on support for programs as needed;
- Perform research and administrative tasks pertinent to the various WAF departments;
- Work to maintain a clean and organized space both in public and non-public areas WAC;
- Provide support to campus-wide events, including but not limited to FireWorks, Annual Gala, Second Saturday Art Walks, etc.;
- Play supporting role in set up and take down of events rentals;
- Open and close the MMG course, assist in its maintenance, help MMG patrons (seasonally);
- Other duties as assigned
Additional Notes
The working hours for this position are a function of work and support requirements and directed by Director of Museum and Visitor Experiences. The WAF business hours are 9AM to 5PM, WAC public hours are Wednesday through Saturday 11AM to 6PM, second Saturday of each month 11AM to 9PM, and Sunday Noon to 5PM. LPM hours are Fridays and Saturdays 11AM to 6PM and Sunday Noon to 5PM. MMG is open seasonally (April – November) and generally has hours aligning with WAC public hours with extended evening hours Friday – Sunday in the summer. Large scale programs, theater performances, and event rentals do occur outside of standard operating/public opening hours. Associates can expect to be scheduled as needed during these times.
