JOB TITLE: Central Melt Leader
LOCATION: LMP plant in Mexico, MO
SHIFT: 1st
GENERAL SUMMARY
Leads and manages all operations and resources (manpower, equipment, materials, inventory, etc.) of the Melt work area. Ensures compliance with safety and housekeeping rules and attainment of quality, production, service, scrap control, profit, and budget goals/objectives. As part of the support services management team, contributes to the attainment of department and company goals/objectives, team collaboration, and to the establishment of guidelines, documentation, planning/development and advancement of the department.
JOB DUTIES
1. Leads daily operations and work activities which includes, managing, coaching, training and development of team members to be accountable for productivity, quality, scrap control, continuous improvement, safety, housekeeping, recordkeeping and overall policy adherence. Schedules equipment breakdown repairs, ensuring minimal downtime.
2. Manages and is held accountable for the overall profitability (P/L) of the work area, including:
• Managing and tracking WIP and FG inventory, ensuring the ability to meet melt requirements. Attends weekly production planning meetings.
• Managing and tracking costs, scrap, Melt Loss, Dross Loss, pounds per hour delivery, and gas consumption.
• Managing quality, cost improvement activities, and all other P/L operations ensuring business/performance plan goals/objectives are attained.
• Developing and administering the operations and capital budgets with the assistance of finance and Operations Support Manager.
• Performs analysis of external tolling and metal processing by subcontractor.
• Managing customer performance measures which include low metal / cold metal downtime and ratio of conforming to nonconforming heats.
3. Monitors and analyzes melt quality and trends results. Makes decisions regarding accept/reject of heat and blending of rejected material to bring within specification.
4. Communicates safety and housekeeping rules and policies, ensuring understanding and compliance by all team members, including equipment PM’s and expected equipment performance.
5. Develops and administers Melt operations policies, procedures, standards and practices and ensures compliance by team members.
6. Oversees the maintenance and rebuilding of holding furnaces. Identifies when furnaces require rebuilding. Ensures minimal machine downtime.
7. Provides guidance and methods for continuous improvement within team, and leads/participates in plant continuous improvement initiatives.
8. Participates in lean manufacturing initiatives.
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Required: High School diploma/GED
Preferred: 7 years manufacturing experience; 3 years’ experience in a supervisory/lead position Bachelor’s Degree or Technical Degree; Technical Manufacturing Certification(s); Die casting experience
