POSITION: Carpenter
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Building & Grounds
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE:
The position is accountable for performing skilled woodworking duties in the
construction, alteration and repair of structures, buildings, fixtures, equipment and other
articles made of wood and similar material.
PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
The position is accountable for the following end result:
1. Construct, install, maintain, and repair woodwork such as cabinets, bookcases,
shelves, doors, window frames, partitions, and furniture, matching materials for
color, grain, and texture.
2. Repair window sashes, replace hardware and glass, and perform related
carpentry tasks.
3. Fabricate and repair furnishings including shelving, work tables, and counters.
4. Install, maintain, repair, and replace door locks, hinges, latches, closures, and
other door hardware.
5. Work with various materials including wood, drywall, metal studs, and sashes.
6. Perform carpentry work in compliance with City of Worcester Building Codes and
standard trade practices.
7. Measure, saw, square, sand, fit, and fasten materials to complete assignments
successfully.
8. Plans, organizes and lays out tasks; interprets plans, diagrams, blue prints,
sketches and specifications; performs tasks from verbal and written instructions
and work orders.
9. Estimates material requirements from drawings, blueprints, or written
instructions.
10. Performs maintenance on shop equipment and tools.
11. Assesses labor, material and equipment needed for assigned projects; monitors
inventory levels of materials and equipment.
12. Assists in post construction inspections, project planning and evaluation, and
coordination or work with other trades.
13. Receive and respond to work orders, ensuring compliance with building, health,
and safety codes; maintain accurate records of work performed including labor
and materials using the district's computerized maintenance management
software (CMMS); and complete and close out CMMS work orders appropriately.
14. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
LICENSES/SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Minimum 5-8 years full time experience as a carpenter.
2. Must possess a High School Diploma or G.E.D. Certificate
3. Must possess a Valid Massachusetts State driver’s license.
4. Must pass a CORI/SORI Background check.
5. Must possess a valid Massachusetts riggers license.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
2. Required to work at heights or in narrow spaces to service equipment.
3. Required to stand for prolonged periods.
4. Periodically required to lift and carry heavy supplies or equipment.
5. Occasionally required to wear protective clothing.
6. Occasionally required to work outdoors in inclement weather.
7. Must be available to respond to emergency calls after hours
8. Requires travel between work sites within the city.
9. Works in all weather conditions, at heights, and in enclosed spaces with limited
access.
10. Availability to work overtime, including weekends, as necessary.
11. Must have basic computer knowledge for time entry, preventative maintenance
and work orders.
12. Good verbal and written communication.
SALARY: See Salary Schedule
WORK YEAR: 12 months
WORK DAY: 1:30 p.m.-10:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, plus overtime
