Position Summary: The Campus Security Officer is a key support role responsible for ensuring the safety and security of students, parents, employees, buildings, and property at Woodward Academy. This position involves regular campus patrols, responding to emergencies, enforcing regulations, and providing assistance as needed to maintain a secure environment. This position primarily supports the College Park Campus.
Specific Duties Include:
- Patrol the campus on foot and by vehicle to monitor safety and security.
- Ensure building security by opening/locking doors and gates, turning off lights, and checking utilities.
- Maintain a written log of activities during patrols.
- Report unusual incidents to the Director of Security in a clear and accurate manner.
- Facilitate the movement of people and vehicles while enforcing local and state traffic regulations.
- Provide patrol services for campus events and serve as a resource for the community.
- Identify and report criminal offenses, enforce campus rules, and uphold local, state, and federal laws.
- Respond to emergency calls, evaluate situations, and take appropriate action according to policy.
- Act as a neutral party in conflicts and promote a secure and orderly campus atmosphere.
- Assist with tasks such as directing visitors, transporting individuals to the Health Center, dispatching, and delivering items.
- Provide courteous service and assistance to campus members and visitors.
- Direct traffic during arrival and dismissal of school, including carpool pick up and drop off.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Required Skills:
- Ability to work in physically demanding conditions, including regular walking and exposure to weather.
- Strong understanding of community policing philosophy and the ability to enforce rules and laws impartially.
- Capability to operate in stressful and emergency situations, making quick and effective decisions.
- Proficiency in responding to medical, criminal, and disaster incidents and directing immediate response actions.
- Willingness to work late evenings, weekends, overtime, and remain overnight during emergencies (up to 72 hours).
- Strong communication skills for interacting with visitors, students, employees, and guests.
- Ability to monitor and maintain communications via radio, phone, and email.
- Proficiency in operating computers and related programs (Windows or Apple systems).
- Commitment to attending required training courses, including overnight sessions.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- High School Diploma.
- Valid Georgia driver’s license.
- Completion of an approved State of Georgia Basic Recruit Academy and current Georgia. Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
- Active Georgia POST certification or endorsement in a Georgia Police Agency.
- Passing score on the Georgia Double Action Pistol Course.
- Successful completion of all pre-employment requirements for Woodward Academy.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The Campus Security Officer position is a non-exempt, twelve-month position.
