6th Grade Reading/English Long-Term Substitute, Lower School

Position Summary: This position involves a long-term substitute teaching position for 6th-grade Reading and English Language Arts classes.
Specific Duties Include:
- Instructing students in subject content, along with reading and grading student work
- Demonstrating a high level of responsiveness to students
- Serving as an adviser to a group of Lower School students
- Managing student behavior in a manner that optimizes the learning environment
- Maintain regular communication with students and their parents regarding progress
- Working cooperatively with other grade-level teachers to implement common course syllabi and assessments
- Ensure continuity of instruction and maintain a productive learning environment in the absence of the regular teacher by following lesson plans and managing classroom activities.
- Other duties as assigned
Required Skills:
- Have a working knowledge and experience teaching Lower School students (grades 4-6)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, demonstrating tact and diplomacy
- Ability to leverage technology, including but not limited to Microsoft Office, Google apps, language lab software, and interactive whiteboard technology
- A solid understanding of learning challenges, as well as the accommodations and differentiated learning techniques to support such
- Strong organizational and classroom management skills
- Experience with proficiency-based instruction in an immersive environment preferred
Minimum Job Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in Education from an accredited institution of higher learning; master’s degree in education preferred
- 2 years of successful teaching preferred
- Independent school experience preferred, but not required
The 6th Grade Reading/English Long-Term Substitute, Lower School position is a temporary position, paid at a daily rate.
