One of the most beloved resorts in New England, The Woodstock Inn & Resort, is seeking a Director of Catering Sales and Events to join the team.
Job Summary:
The Director of Catering Sales and Events will assist in the supervision of the daily event operations, catering sales efforts and catering/events team. This position will have a market, book and execute their own programs while supervising the department. This position is responsible for maintaining service levels, developing business strategies, securing client contracts and managing financial performance.
Job Specifications:
- Expected Pay Range: starting at $90,000 annually plus incentive pay program.
- The pay scale shown is the range that we reasonably expect to pay. Actual compensation offered may be adjusted based on a candidate’s qualifications and/or experience.
- Shift & Schedule Availability: Full Time Year Round
- Weekends and Holidays when needed
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead, mentor and manage the catering and events team, including hiring, training and performance evaluations
- Assign booked programs to direct reports with the goal of maintaining balance and providing the best service to the client.
- Book, plan and execute events based on assigned market segment including all aspects of the event such as menu planning, amenities, activities, etc.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs are met and expectations are exceeded.
- Address all client concerns related to in-house events and bring them with their resolution to the attention of the Sales Manager and Director of Sales.
- Follow up with clients and Sales Managers regularly during and after departure to ensure satisfaction and secure future bookings.
- Works in tandem with culinary and banquet teams for continuous improvement of food presentations, execution, service and average checks.
- Develop and implement departmental goals and strategies to achieve company objectives.
- Target and cultivate business within event segments including social and corporate.
- Manage reporting and distribution of event schedules, banquet event orders and other communication to the impacted departments.
- Strategize with activity departments on initiatives to maximize client experience, revenue and resort offerings.
- Stay apprised of event and market trends in the industry and with competitors to evaluate innovative improvements and share best practices.
- Arrange and conduct special events and site inspections. Entertain clients in accordance with established company and resort policies and guidelines.
- Book all music, décor and entertainment programming for the resort venues, handle arrangements regarding travel, housing and contract negotiations.
Job Requirements:
- Ability to provide articulately constructed professional communications.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical computations.
- Valid operator’s license and driving record in compliance with company standards.
- College degree or equivalent work experience.
- Ability to remain calm and resolve problems using good judgement as interpreted by the management.
- Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy under pressure of tense/confrontational situations.
- Work cohesively with co-workers as part of a team.
- Experience in the hospitality or event coordination industry- 5 Year minimum
- Experience in wedding planning/coordination – 3 Year minimum
- Experience in leading teams – 3 Year minimum
- Knowledge of Opera, SMS Host, Ivvy and Delphi
- Food & Beverage background
- Knowledge of banquet service
- Strong computer skills
- Strong phone etiquette and able to relate to clients, guests and coworkers in a professional manner
