Summary Description
Under the general direction of the Facilities Summer Staff Supervisor, and the guidance of the Director of Facilities, the Lifeguard’s role while on stand is to ensure the safety of all members/guests of Woodside by properly assessing the pool areas and acting quickly when responding to emergencies. Between rotations, Lifeguards maintain cleanliness of the Family Pool, pool deck and surrounding areas, picking up and transporting dirty towels and ensuring the Pool House is adequately stocked with clean towels. At all times, Lifeguards must work diligently to uphold and enforce all policies set forth by Woodside. Each employee is responsible for maintaining a good working relationship with all pool staff, members and guests.
Duties / Responsibilities
While on Stand
- Maintains continuous surveillance of all members / guests in the pool
- Monitors all swimmers to ensure that they all follow safety protocols and rules of the pool
- Continuously scans the pool and surrounding areas for potential hazards, taking proactive steps to help avoid accidents
- Immediately responds to (potential) drownings or injuries by providing appropriate first aid and/or CPR care and treatment as needed until emergency medical services arrive to takeover
While Off Stand
- Acts and responds as needed to any incident or injury and provides accurate documentation as required
- Enforces pool and pool area rules to ensure a safe and fun environment for all members and guests
- Walks and commands the pool deck; even when not on stand, always moves with purpose
- Performs guard switches timely and purposefully
- Does not distract other guards that are actively working on stand
- Checks of safety rescue tubes, buoys and equipment; reports issues to Facilities Summer Staff Supervisor
- Opens and closes the pool per provided checklists
- Cleans skimmers, brushes water line and skims pools of debris before and during every shift
- Ensures that all pool equipment is stored safely
- Properly handles Lost & Found items per outlined policies and procedures
- Clears used towels from pool deck and lounge chairs, transports them to Laundry Room
- Maintains stock of clean towels in Pool House
- Maintains cleanliness of Pool House office areas and related storage closets
- Assists in teardown and setup of all pool furniture as needed for swim meets, special events and other activities
- May at times be asked to support special events within Club
- Moves throughout the shift with purpose; no personal cell phone usage during shift – unless on break
- Participates in GroupMe messaging app to review news/updates/coverage requests/etc.
- Works or finds coverage for all scheduled shifts
- Complies with Club’s employee handbook manual, departmental policies and procedures and with all applicable federal and state employment laws
- All other duties as assigned

Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge is qualifying.
