Woodlands Market, Marin and San Francisco's premier gourmet grocery store, has openings for Food Receiver at our off-site Kitchen.
The Food Receiver is responsible for accurately receiving, inspecting, and organizing all incoming food deliveries for the commissary kitchen. This role ensures that all products meet quality and safety standards, are stored properly, and that inventory systems remain accurate. The position plays a key part in maintaining HACCP compliance and supporting overall kitchen operations.

Key Responsibilities
- Receiving & Inspection
- Receive all food and supply deliveries according to scheduled drop-off times.
- Verify accuracy of orders by checking quantities, product specifications, temperatures, and quality against invoices and purchase orders.
- Document any discrepancies, damages, or shortages and communicate them promptly to management.
- Put away all products in their designated storage areas (walk-ins, freezers, dry storage, garage area) following established organization systems.
- Rotate inventory using FIFO (First In, First Out) to minimize waste and maintain freshness.
- Label and date all incoming products according to food safety standards.
- Maintain proper storage equipment and report any equipment issues immediately.
- Follow all HACCP procedures related to receiving, storing, and handling food products.
- Ensure all food safety guidelines are followed to prevent cross-contamination and maintain product integrity.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized receiving area at all times.
- Keep walk-ins, dry storage, and garage storage areas clean, orderly, and free of hazards.
- Dispose of packaging materials, pallets, and waste according to facility procedures.
- Support general sanitation tasks as needed to uphold commissary cleanliness standards.
- Work closely with kitchen staff, drivers, and vendors to ensure smooth receiving operations.
- Communicate any issues with deliveries, product quality, or storage conditions to supervisors promptly.
- Assist with other commissary tasks as assigned to support overall operations.
- Knowledge of food safety and HACCP principles, especially related to receiving, temperature control, and storage.
- Strong attention to detail for checking invoices, verifying product quality, and maintaining accurate records.
- Basic math and counting skills for inventory, order verification, and stock rotation.
- Ability to organize and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced commissary environment.
- Effective communication skills to coordinate with vendors, drivers, and kitchen staff.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and adhere to established receiving and storage procedures.
- Physical stamina to lift, move, and carry boxes or products (often 50 lbs), and work in cold environments such as walk-ins and freezers.
- Time-management skills to ensure deliveries are processed quickly and accurately.
- Basic computer or tablet proficiency for logging deliveries, completing HACCP documentation, and updating inventory systems.
- Problem-solving skills to identify and report discrepancies, damaged goods, or safety concerns.
- Commitment to cleanliness and organization, maintaining safe and sanitary storage areas at all times.
