Description: Instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success. Instill skills that will lead to the formulation of pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self-discipline, and self-confidence.

Qualifications

  • License/Certification: Assistant Head wrestling coach must be a teacher licensed in Illinois or a staff member of Middle School
  • Education: Required - High School Diploma
  • Experience: Required - Must have prior wrestling and coaching experience, Red Cross First Aid Certification, CPR/AED certification and USA Wrestling National Coaches Education Program certification approved.

Performance Responsibilities

  • Submits "Application for Extra Duty Position" for Administrative Review
  • Obtains administrative approval to fill the position
  • Meets with the administration and reviews Performance Responsibilities for the position
  • Signs "Performance Responsibilities Acknowledgment" for the position
  • Acts as a liaison between the administration and the organization
  • Possesses knowledge of the Athletic Program approved by Woodland School and is responsible for the implementation of the program
  • Possesses a knowledge of existing school, conference and state regulations and implements consistency in interpreting such
  • Assists the Head Coach in conducting tryouts yearly to select a team
  • Assists the Head Coach establish meetings and activities for the organization
  • Attends all meetings and sponsored activities
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and fans
  • Assists the Head Coach in providing team members and parents with practice and game schedules, directions for away games, eligibility requirements
  • Establishes a line of command within the organization
  • Assists the Head Coach in preparing students to represent the school in an effort to provide spirit, enthusiasm and interest relating to the activity
  • Assists the Head Coach in maintaining policy which reflects school values and as an avenue of public relations
  • Assists the Head Coach in teaching the fundamentals, rules, strategies and basic skills of the sport so the athlete will realize a degree of individual and team success
  • Assists the Head Coach in promoting accepted warm-up, stretching and safety techniques associated with the activity
  • Assists the Head Coach in teaching self discipline, responsibility, teamwork, character, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self confidence and sportsmanship
  • Assists the Head Coach in providing adequate supervision at all times to insure the safety of students during activities whether in school or at outside school activities
  • Assists the Head Coach in assuring enforcement of all school rules and regulations at activities
  • Assists the Head Coach in supervising students at games and on the bus and develops a roster sheet so parents can sign their children out if the parents take them home from away games
  • Assists the Head Coach to ensures all students have a ride home. Provides supervision until all students have left the activity
  • Assists the Head Coach in enforcing "no play or practice rule" for those students who do not have signed parental permission slips, do not have physicals on file in the office, have not paid the Participation Fee, are not academically eligible or were absent from school on the day of the activity
  • Assists the Head Coach in gaining administrative approval for any fundraisers and collecting and depositing any money as stipulated by the administration, Building and District Policy and Procedures
  • Assists the Head Coach in exercising careful supervision over all student operated projects, student personnel, clean up and money collection for which the organization is responsible
  • Assists the Head Coach in the distribution and collection of uniforms and cost of any equipment lost or not returned
  • Assists the Head Coach in submitting, at the end of the season, an inventory of equipment and uniforms to the Athletic Director
  • Ensures a Medicine kit is always available at practice and games
  • Assists the Head Coach in notifying the designated administrator and/or building nurse in the event of a student accident or illness
  • Assists the Head Coach in directing student managers, statisticians and assistants (if applicable
  • Assists the Head Coach in providing information in a timely manner as and when requested by the Athletic Director and/or the designated building administrator
  • Assists the Head Coach in performing any additional duties necessary to run the program

Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

  • Planning and Preparation - Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of content and pedagogy, students, and resources. Design coherent instruction and select appropriate instructional activities, and has the ability to assess students' skills and abilities.
  • Classroom Environment - Creates an environment of respect and report, establishes a culture for learning, manages classroom procedures, manages students behavior, and has the ability to organize physical space.
  • Instruction - Communicates clearly and accurately, uses questioning and discussion techniques, engages students in learning, provides feedback to students, and demonstrates flexibility and responsiveness.
  • Professional Responsibility - Maintains accurate records, communicates professionally, contributes to the school and district, grows and develops professionally, and shows professionalism.

Technical: Must be able to utilized a white board/smartboard, iPads with various apps, online assessment tools, Microsoft Office and Google programs, and district email/voicemail systems.

Interpersonal: Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with students, staff, parents, businesses and community. Strong organization, communication and interpersonal skills. Must be able to work harmoniously with the community, students, parents, staff, and administration, etc. Must be able to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff. Must exhibit sound judgment in dealing with people. Must have strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to lead and support paraprofessional staff in the classroom and collaborate with all related service providers.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Part-time Stipend Position - December 1, 2025 through approximately March 14, 2026 (IESA State Meet)

Practice times: 3:15 p.m. - 4:45 p.m.

Meet Days: 3:15 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.

SALARY RANGE: Stipend Position - Starting Stipend Pay $2405.29 per season
