Elementary Social Worker

The Elementary Social Worker role is a vital partnership in student success, where you will serve as a pillar of support and a champion for a collaborative culture between Summit Elementary and Columbine Elementary. You will be instrumental in building a comprehensive Student Services program that goes beyond the classroom, utilizing data-driven insights to intervene during crises, manage safety plans, and provide dedicated support for students with diverse needs, including those on IEPs. By working hand-in-hand with educators, families, and community agencies, you will advocate for every student's potential, foster a compassionate environment, and help bridge the gap between home, school, and social services.

Development and Management

  • Uses data to develop and inform the Student Services program and evaluate the program's impact on the school's instructional goals.
  • Collaborates on the development and management of the comprehensive Student Services program with school and district administration.

Preventative and Responsive Services

  • Assesses student needs and makes referrals to appropriate school resource personnel, social agencies, community agencies and alternative programs.
  • Directly involved with the MTSS process, risk and threat assessments, designing safety plans, intervenes during crisis situations and participates on the school critical incident recovery team.

Individual Student Planning

  • The social worker is expected to meet with students individually as well as in small or large group settings.
  • Supports students on IEPs through Direct/Indirect service minutes
  • Tracks progress for students on IEPs, identifies goals, conducts observations, writes plans and attends meetings
  • Supports the Affective Needs (AN) program and alternative education
  • Conduct and support students with Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA)
  • Collaborates with parents/guardians and educators to assist students with a variety of needs
  • Participates in school management teams in order to advocate for students needs and provide guidance for school staff.

System Support

  • Participates in team meetings, collaborates with colleagues
  • Uses responsive counseling strategies to establish relationships and collaborate with educators, students, families, and community partners which reflect recognition of and respect for each individual.
  • Assists families in obtaining services for their children through an appropriate referral and follow-up process.
  • Serves as liaison between the social services agencies (i.e., Department of Human Service) and personnel from the various school systems.
  • Assists teachers in understanding their students, including providing and interpreting student data.
  • Provides in-service training on topics related to the Student Services program and supporting student achievement.
  • Build collaboration between the Student Services team at Columbine Elementary and Summit Elementary.

Accountability

  • Conducts at minimum a yearly program audit to review the extent and quality of program implementation.
  • Communicates and shares the goals of the comprehensive Student Services program to stakeholders including students, families and community partners.
  • Prepares and submits a variety of requested reports and data, to ensure fulfillment of established program requirements.
  • Uses all available data, including academic grades, discipline referrals and attendance data, to identify students in need and to deliver services.

Qualifications

  • Master's Degree from an accredited college or university in Social Work (MSW)
  • Meets the Colorado Department of Education certification requirements for the Special Service Provider (SSP)
  • Ability to learn the student information system (Infinite Campus).
  • Familiarity with Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and HIPPA

Additional Duties

  • Serves students at both Columbine Elementary and Summit Elementary.
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administration.
