Summary Of Responsibilities
- Leads energizing, fun, safe, welcoming, and educational group fitness classes.
- Builds effective, authentic relationships with members, helps others connect with one another, and with the UVU community.
- Prepares and maintains appropriate equipment, storage areas, music, and handouts for each class.
- Keeps management informed of customer and facility needs.
- Keeps accurate class attendance records.
- Certified fitness instructor certification (AFAA, NETA, ACE, Fitour, etc.) or a specialized fitness certification (Zumba, Les Mills, Yoga, Barre, etc.).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid Certifications or within one semester of hire date.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of instructional strategies and techniques.
- Knowledge of human anatomy, kinesiology, and training principles.
- Knowledge of group fitness teaching strategies and the incorporation of music, tempo, cueing technique, and rhythm.
- Knowledge of programs and services in the Student Life and Wellness Center.
- Knowledge of methods for promoting and increasing fitness in patrons.
- Excellent communication and organization skills.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to multitask and independently time manage.
- Ability to teach the specified fitness class and cater to individual and group needs.
- Ability to facilitate a positive fitness environment.
- Ability to motivate class participants.
- Ability to cooperate and work well with other staff members.
