Utah Valley University offers this advising role as a chance to work directly with motivated high school students and families while supporting a smooth, confident transition into higher education. Based at the Lehi Campus, the Academic Advisor for Concurrent Enrollment plays a vital role in guiding students through academic planning, course selection, and exploration of majors and career pathways. Through in-person, online, and phone appointments, advisors create individualized education plans while staying current on state high school requirements and career and technical education (CTE) pathways. The position combines relationship-building with meaningful, student-centered work that helps learners see a clear, achievable path toward college success.

This role also provides the opportunity to collaborate across campus and with external partners, advocate for concurrent enrollment students, and contribute to proactive outreach and educational presentations. Advisors apply strong organizational and communication skills through record maintenance, test score interpretation, and participation in meetings that advance student access and success. Summary Of Responsibilities

  • Advising: Advises current and prospective concurrent enrollment students in aspects of UVU Concurrent Enrollment, including admissions, registration, pathways, university processes, and campus engagement. Counsels students in the development of educational plans, career and major exploration, and course selections that align with student goals. Interprets academic test scores and assists students with appropriate course placement. Refers students who are in academic difficulty and helps facilitate progress. Documents and maintains student advising records. Consults with faculty and staff to document program changes. Ensures students receive up-to-date and accurate information concerning changes, assessment guidelines, course and instructor information, transfer guidelines, scholarships, and transition.
  • Increasing Concurrent Enrollment Participation: Advisors work with students, parents, and high school partners to promote concurrent enrollment participation. Partners with CTE to promote the exploration of pathways and GE certification. Uses predictive analytics, approved technology, and proactive outreach with students, parents, and relevant high school partners to improve outcomes for students. Provides data and messaging to internal and external stakeholders as necessary.
  • Lead Advising Area: Advisors are responsible for working with the Concurrent Enrollment Director of Advising to provide and execute a service plan for their assigned high schools. This includes provision of high school visits with students, parents, and stakeholders, hosting on-campus appointments, and facilitating collaborative initiatives to fulfill Concurrent Enrollment goals and vision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor's degree plus one year of experience related to the Summary of Duties totaling five years.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of secondary and postsecondary advising practices to support student transition into higher education.
  • Knowledge of contemporary academic advising theories, models, and best practices.
  • Knowledge of graduation requirements across high school, two-year, and four-year higher education institutions.

Skills

  • Academic advising and student counseling skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to support student retention, persistence, and graduation initiatives.
  • Skills in data tracking, analysis, and interpretation for advising and reporting purposes.
  • Effective record-keeping and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and related educational or student information systems.
