Job purpose
The billing clerk shall be responsible for processing daily claims, monitoring the use of procedural and diagnostic codes, verifying insurance and demographic information and following up on billing-related issues.

Duties and Responsibilities
Primary job duties and responsibilities include:
- Daily: Review and process encounters from previous business day
- Verify all needed CPT codes are present
- Verify all listed Diagnosis codes are correct
- Create claims for each visit
- Edit CPT and/or Diagnostic codes as needed
- Ensure all required codes are included
- Daily: Track claims transmission to clearinghouse and # of patient statements sent
- Daily: Follow all HIPAA and related confidentiality rules at all times.
- Weekly: Run Unbilled Encounters report, review and process missing encounter claims
- Weekly: Review Billing Trailers on Quest site to make diagnostic corrections
- Weekly: Review billing-related tasks and make corrections as needed.
- Weekly: Process WCC Recalls for visits held the previous week utilizing the current Recall protocol
- Weekly: Meet with Practice Administrator and/or Front Office Manager to discuss billing issues
- As needed: Assist the Practice Administrator with billing-related training for other departments
- As needed: Participate in all Clinic Required training for programs including but not limited to Compliance, PCPCH, and Rural Health
- As needed: Assist Practice Administrator and/or Front Office Manager with other duties as assigned
- As needed: Volunteer and participate in various clinic initiatives including but not limited to the Quality Improvement Team and the Safety Team.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent - required
- Documented experience and excellence in customer service - required
- Previous experience in medical billing - 2 years or recent completion of a qualified medical billing and coding program OR previous experience as a medical assistant / LPN - required
- Strong attention to detail - required
- Ability to manage competing deadlines - required
- Willingness to help in other areas of the clinic, as needed - required
- Previous experience in Pediatric billing - desired
- Previous experience using NextGen PM/EMR - desired
- Bilingual in English and Spanish - desired
