Position Summary:
The Medical Records Clerk supports the daily operations of the Health Information/Medical Records Department, ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant management of resident health records. This role works within HIPAA guidelines and provides administrative support to the Health Information Director as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain and organize electronic medical records (EMR) and paper charts
- Scan, index, and file documents in accordance with HIPAA and facility policy
- Process physician orders and ensure timely signatures and documentation
- Manage Release of Information (ROI) requests (internal and external)
- Perform medical records audits and ensure regulatory compliance
- Verify insurance, payer sources, and resident information
- Run reports, including daily census and monthly audits
- Manage user access and support systems such as PointClickCare (EMR)
- Monitor and process incoming faxes and documentation
- Support overall medical records operations and administrative tasks
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- 1 year of clerical, administrative, or medical records experience
- Experience in healthcare, skilled nursing, or long-term care preferred
- Knowledge of EMR systems (PointClickCare preferred)
- Familiarity with medical terminology and HIPAA regulations
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and time management skills
