Registered Nurse / OB / Per Diem
Delivers direct/indirect patient care utilizing the nursing process through data collection and assessment; prioritization of patient’s problems and needs; and development/implementation/evaluation of a nursing plan of care. Demonstrates critical thinking in the delivery of safe, quality, age specific care. Delegates effectively to appropriate team members. Documents accurately and in a timely manner. Communicates and collaborates with other healthcare team members. Adheres to organizational policies and procedures; regulatory and accrediting body requirements; and professional practice standards. Care will be provided to patients of all ages from neonate, infant, pediatric, adolescent, and adult to geriatric, dependent on the department/unit.

Education and Work Experience
- Graduate of an accredited program for nursing education, Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
- Current licensure to practice professional Nursing in the State of Ohio.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider CPR (BLS) certification required.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required or obtained within 6 months for Medical-Surgical (2E/2W); Intensive Care Unit (ICU); Birthing Center (OB and Nursery), Gynecology; Emergency Department (ED); Pain Management Center (PMC); Outpatient Treatment and Infusion Center (OPTIC); Surgery; Outpatient Surgery and Peri-Anesthesia Unit (OPS-PACU), Cardiac Rehab and Cardiovascular.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) required or obtained within 6 months for 2 East, OPS/PACU, OPTIC, and the Emergency Department.
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) required or obtained within 6 months for Family Birthing Center (OB and Nursery).
- Current Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred within 3 years of hire for ED.
- Specialty certification relevant to the department/unit preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years clinical experience relevant to the unit/department preferred.
- Exhibits working knowledge of nursing role and scope of practice, current trends, and standards of care relevant for the department/unit and as defined by the State of Ohio Nurse Practice Act and the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Basic computer literacy (keyboarding; order/data entry and retrieval; word processing)
- Knowledge of and skill in using all instrumentation/ equipment for patient care utilized in the unit/department including but not limited to IV pumps, medication dispensing units, monitors, and/or defibrillators.
Patient Care
- Integrates best practices and demonstrates competence in the delivery of patient care.
- May serve as a resource for/practices within current standards of nursing care.
- Identifies and reports clinical and ethical issues.
- Assesses/reassesses patient’s condition based upon observation of patient and interview of patient and/or family; physician’s diagnosis and data; data obtained from patient triage; monitoring (e.g. telemetry, fetal monitor); diagnostic results, and relevant data from other healthcare providers.
- Uses professional knowledge to develop/revise nursing plans of care for assigned patients according to unit guidelines and criteria with expected outcomes.
- Assesses and integrates the patient’s specific needs, individual goals, spiritual and cultural beliefs, learning abilities, desire and motivation to learn, physical and cognitive limitations, and other factors in developing the nursing care plan.
- Delivers safe nursing interventions in an organized, efficient, and prioritized manner to address identified needs.
- Performs/assists with procedures and nursing interventions.
- Administers medications safely and within the requirements of the law and the Ohio Boards of Nursing and Pharmacy.
- Evaluates/re-evaluates patient’s response to nursing interventions and patient’s progress to expected outcome(s).
- Completes the admission process and initiates discharge planning upon admission.
- Completes the discharge process, including but not limited to education/information about self and follow-up care and medications.
- Provides nursing care to specific patient populations (e.g. pediatric) and/or diagnoses (e.g. cardiac), dependent on the department/unit.
- Identifies changes in the patient’s condition, including but not limited to arrhythmias and/or alterations in hemodynamic status, and intervenes timely and appropriately.
- Reviews nursing care plans, physicians’ orders, diagnostic results, and other data to coordinate and facilitate timely completion or follow-up.
- Documents all aspects of patient care and maintains patient records and care plans in a timely manner as appropriate for unit.
