Salary : $90,000 - $120,000 DOE

With nine offices in four time zones, the firm provides corporate global visa services in over 100 countries. WR is one of the fastest growing immigration service providers worldwide with over 40 attorneys and 150 immigration professionals working out of offices in Boston, Denver, Los Angeles, New York, Oakland, San Francisco, Santa Monica, and Shanghai.

The HR Generalist is a key member of the WR Immigration headquarters team and plays an important role in many areas related to different stages of the employee life cycle from hiring through offboarding. Responsibilities cover a range of subjects, including recruiting, performance management, and payroll support, among others. This employee reports directly to the COO and works closely with the HR and Operations Managers. This is a full-time, exempt role requiring periodic in-office presence in our Santa Monica office. Candidates must be local to the Los Angeles area and able to work according to Pacific Time hours.

Responsibilities

Recruiting :

  • Lead recruitment process from beginning to end for a variety of positions, including attorneys, legal and administrative support staff, and headquarters personnel

Draft and post job descriptions across multiple platforms

  • Screen resumes, conduct initial interviews, and coordinate follow-up interviews
  • Spearhead communication with applicants
  • Prepare and send offer letters, negotiating with prospective hires under the supervision of the management team
  • Performance management :

  • Coordinate firm-wide year-end performance review process
  • Monitor 90-day evaluations for new hires, including joining reviews if needed
  • Consult team managers regarding performance concerns to determine if coaching or other disciplinary measures are appropriate
  • Draft Performance Improvement Plans to be finalized by supervisor based on specifics of situation
  • Meet with employees to implement, check in regularly throughout duration of the plan

  • Alongside supervisor and management team, determine whether PIP is successful or if termination is necessary
  • Payroll support :

  • Perform a variety of payroll-related tasks alongside the accounting department, such as :
  • Adjusting employee pay rate following promotions / raises

  • Completing tax registrations for new jurisdictions with remote employees
  • Monitoring and troubleshooting tax notices as they are received
  • Overseeing delivery of W-2s to current and former employees
  • Monitoring benefits reports on a monthly basis for any new enrollments / changes to add to payroll
  • Other :

  • Participate in monthly productivity reviews with the management team to help determine staffing needs on legal teams
  • Facilitate team-specific and / or firm-wide communication regarding changes to staffing (new team members, internal transfers)
  • Periodically assign compliance-related trainings
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned by the WR Management team
  • Requirements

  • Bachelors degree (required) with strong academic background
  • At least 1-3 years of HR experience with a focus on recruiting required
  • Experience in law and / or business immigration preferred
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proven organization and time management capabilities
  • Ability to successfully navigate multiple shifting priorities at any given time
