Position Summary

The Forestville Central School District is seeking a dedicated School Psychology Intern to support the psychological services needs of our students. This internship position has been established to address the district's requirements for psychological testing and related services. The intern will work under the supervision of certified school psychologists and contribute to the assessment, counseling, and intervention processes for children and adolescents. This role is designed to fulfill the internship requirements of a Master of Science (M.S.) in School Psychology program, while providing hands-on experience in a public-school setting. The intern must complete a minimum of 1,200 clock hours over two semesters to meet program and district standards.

Key Responsibilities

? Conduct psychological assessments, including intelligence testing, behavioral evaluations, and assessments of children, adolescents, infants, and preschoolers, in alignment with district needs and internship guidelines.

? Assist in counseling and behavior therapy sessions with children, applying theories and practices from coursework in counseling processes, multicultural counseling, group therapy, and psychopathology.

? Participate in consultation and intervention strategies to support students with exceptional needs, reading difficulties, and developmental challenges.

? Collaborate with teachers, guidance counselors, and other staff on identifying and addressing student learning, motivation, and emotional issues.

? Contribute to the development of individualized education plans (IEPs) and support services for students across various age groups.

? Maintain accurate records of assessments, interventions, and clock hours to ensure compliance with internship requirements (e.g., 1,200 hours total over two semesters).

? Attend professional development conferences as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement and approved by the Director of Special Education (access to Section 4.4.3 Conferences).

? Adhere to ethical standards and best practices in school psychology, including those from the National Association of School Psychologists (NASP).

Qualifications

? Enrollment in a Master of Science (M.S.) in School Psychology program with an Advanced Certificate from an accredited institution.

? Completion of prerequisite coursework, including but not limited to: Introduction to Educational Research, Counseling Theory and Practice, Intelligence Theory and Assessment, Perspectives in School Psychology, Characteristics of Students with Exceptional Needs, Psychological Assessment of Children and Adolescents, Counseling and Behavior Therapy with Children, Multicultural Counseling, Group Therapy and Applications, Human Learning, Development, and Motivation, Reading Difficulties: Identification and Intervention, Psychological Assessment of Infants and Preschoolers, Lifespan Development, Psychopharmacology, Consultation and Intervention, and Psychopathology and DSM Diagnosis.

? Successful completion of a school psychology practicum (e.g., 400 clock hours) and a comprehensive examination prior to starting the internship.

? Ability to pass the PRAXIS II in School Psychology with the NASP minimum required score.

? Strong interpersonal skills, cultural competence, and a commitment to supporting diverse student populations.

? Eligibility for inclusion in the Forestville Teachers? Association negotiation unit as a School Psychology Intern.

? Background check and fingerprinting as required by New York State Education Department.

? Availability for a 10-month school year schedule, aligning with district calendar.
