PART-TIME READING INSTRUCTOR (Structured Literacy / Dyslexia)

WNY Dyslexia Specialists – Amherst, NY

$28–32 per hour

WNY Dyslexia Specialists is hiring two part-time instructors to join our structured literacy team beginning with an apprenticeship on April 13.

This is not an entry-level tutoring position. We are seeking individuals who already have experience working with students and are looking to grow into a highly skilled instructional role.

This role is ideal for steady, professional educators seeking meaningful instructional work in a focused, skills-based environment.

POSITION STRUCTURE

School Year Schedule (Required):

Monday–Friday

2:30 PM – 6:30 PM

Instructors must reserve this block for student scheduling. Unfilled student slots are considered part of your contracted availability.

Summer Session (Required):

July 6 – August 14

Five days per week

Morning (9:30–12:30), Afternoon (1:30–5:30), or both — assigned based on enrollment.

We do not hire summer-only instructors.

COMPENSATION

$28–32 per hour based on experience.

Instructors are paid for scheduled student sessions. The 2:30–6:30 block is reserved for student scheduling, and hours build as students are assigned.

ABOUT THE ROLE

This role requires more than delivering lessons. You will be actively analyzing student performance, adjusting instruction in real time, and making ongoing decisions about what each student needs next.

Instruction is structured, cumulative, and precise. Instructors are trained to follow a clear lesson framework while developing the ability to make informed instructional decisions based on student response.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Strong professionalism and reliability
  • Calm, steady presence with struggling learners
  • Ability to accept coaching and structured feedback
  • Willingness to be trained in our structured literacy model

Orton-Gillingham experience is welcome but not required. Selected candidates will complete a structured apprenticeship before assuming independent caseloads.

WHO THIS ROLE IS FOR

This role may be a strong fit if you:

  • Have experience working with students (teaching, tutoring, intervention, or structured childcare)
  • Find yourself thinking about how students learn—not just what they complete
  • Are looking for a long-term role where you can grow professionally
  • Value structure, precision, and continuous improvement

Backgrounds in education, literacy, psychology, or related fields are strongly preferred.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

To be considered, applicants must submit:

  • Resume
  • Cover letter explaining interest in structured literacy work
  • In your cover letter, include the word “Compass.”

Applications that do not include all three items will not be reviewed.

After initial review of qualified applications, selected candidates will receive a structured availability and commitment form. Interviews will be scheduled only after that form is completed.

COMMITMENT

This position is designed for individuals seeking a long-term professional role. It is not a fit for those seeking temporary, transitional, or short-term employment.

This position requires commitment to the full school-year schedule (Monday–Friday 2:30–6:30) and the July–August summer session. We prioritize instructional consistency for students.

If you are seeking flexible or summer-only work, this role will not be a fit.
