The Network Administrator I is responsible for designing, implementing, monitoring, and managing local and wide area network systems, as well as application components.
This role performs a wide variety of installation, maintenance, and training tasks to ensure network performance meets Cooperative and user expectations. The Network Administrator also provides recommendations regarding network configurations and installations while proactively supporting mission-critical systems.
Responsibilities include maintaining infrastructure, performing backups and restorations, and minimizing downtime of critical business services.
Additional Requirement: Participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation is required.
Exempt Position – Pay Depends on Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems
- Minimum 5 years of experience implementing, managing, and maintaining multi-location business environments
- Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented work ethic
- Willingness to work flexible or odd hours as needed
- Ability to write reports, correspondence, and procedure manuals
- Ability to present information and respond to questions from leadership, staff, and peers
- Strong understanding of networking fundamentals (DNS, Security, IP Routing, TCP/IP, UDP, IPSEC, HTTP, HTTPS, VPN, Email Routing, Spam, etc.)
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Windows (servers and PCs), Active Directory, DHCP, and DNS services
- Extensive knowledge of LAN/WAN topologies, wireless networking, and IP telephony
- Experience configuring and maintaining:
- Firewalls
- Routers
- Switches (wired and wireless)
- Load balancers
- Proxy servers
- Network management and security technologies
- Strong knowledge of:
- VoIP telephony
- Remote worker technologies
- VPN and business communications systems
- Experience securing, monitoring, and tuning systems for optimal performance, including backups and disaster recovery planning
- Ability to build effective working relationships with customers, co-workers, administration, and vendors
- Strong reasoning ability to interpret written, oral, diagrammatic, or scheduled instructions
- Install computers, printers, and other hardware connections and applications
- Document and maintain technical environments, processes, procedures, and test plans
- Provide operational support to internal customers
- Configure and install network devices and services (routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VPN, BGP, OSPF, QoS, etc.)
- Configure secure and open wireless networking solutions
- Assist in the design of multi-server environments, including IP addressing, DNS, and WINS
- Evaluate alternative technologies and architectures for network infrastructure needs
- Maintain multi-site network operations, systems, and applications across private and public environments
- Participate in audit and compliance activities
- Follow configuration and change management policies to ensure proper network infrastructure updates
- Respond to inquiries from staff, administrators, service providers, and vendors
- Troubleshoot hardware and software issues to restore services
- Provide after-hours support for system issues as needed
- Support patching, backups, and restoration activities
- Monitor system performance and report issues or potential security concerns
- Perform upgrades and repairs to maintain system efficiency
- Assist with root cause analysis for moderately complex issues
- Ensure compliance with organizational security policies and standards
- Participate in business continuity and disaster recovery processes
- Deliver projects and additional duties as assigned
