Introduction
The Office of the State Public Defender (SPD) is currently recruiting to fill a Public Defender Investigator (Limited Term Employee) vacancy at the Shawano Trial office to work up to 40 hours per week. Home office would be located at the Shawano Trial Office, but this position would require travel to the Peshtigo Trial Office based on workload.
Of special note regarding Limited Term Employment (LTE) employment with the State of Wisconsin:
The primary duties of this position are to provide investigative support for staff trial attorneys in assigned cases in a professional manner.
Salary Information
Starting salary will be between $21.27 and $28.00/hr.

Background Check: We consider all qualified applicants with criminal histories, consistent with applicable federal, state and local law. A criminal background check will be done prior to an offer of employment.
Eligibility to work in the US: The SPD does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

- LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to a permanent civil service classified position, and do not lead to permanent status.
- LTE positions are not eligible for the State of Wisconsin health insurance coverage, the Wisconsin Retirement System contributions, and do not received paid time off.
- Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.
- No more than 1039 hours may be worked in one year.
