Introduction
The Office of the State Public Defender (SPD) is currently recruiting to fill a Legal Secretary -Limited Term Employee (LTE) vacancy in our Ashland Trial office to work up to 40 hours per week.
Of special note regarding Limited Term Employment (LTE) employment with the State of Wisconsin:
The Legal Secretary (LS) provides legal support to local office staff, such as ensuring the appropriate, timely and accurate processing of legal documents, and correspondence. In addition, this position is responsible for providing legal secretarial office coordination, while maintaining effective working relationships.
Salary Information
Starting salary will be $24.12/hour.

Eligibility to work in the US: The SPD does not sponsor work visas at the time of hire or anytime during employment. All persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete the required Employment Eligibility Form I-9.

- LTE positions are not civil service classified positions, do not give any rights to a permanent civil service classified position, and do not lead to permanent status.
- LTE positions are not eligible for the State of Wisconsin health insurance coverage, the Wisconsin Retirement System contributions, and do not received paid time off.
- Wisconsin residency is required for LTE positions.
- No more than 1039 hours may be worked in one year.
